This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A Fighter house rule for OD&D to 1e/2e AD&D

I'm getting a little bit of a warped perspective because the warrior in the game I'm running has a flaming sword that does 1d8 + 1d6 fire damage.  So it's kind of like they're getting at least part of a second attack without actually rolling one.

Opponents are a lot of Ogres and 4/5 HD monsters.  It's already to the point where I feel a bonus attack needs to be added to the mix.

I think there are two things here.  There's a feeling warriors should be able to chew through mooks like a scythe, and be able to output more damage against the bigger monsters.  More attacks certainly helps with that, but it does get pretty swingy for all the other times when the fighter is engaged with a big HD monster.

Considering low HD monsters are a pretty negligible threat to fighters at that point in their leveling, I'd almost prefer to just dispense with the hit roll altogether.  I'm tempted to simply say that fighters have a "damage aura".  If you're engaged with a warrior you take automatic damage based on the level of the warrior.

I dunno, just musing.  It would be quicker than rolling 6 attacks when the kobolds pile on.  Probably not as satisfying, but the same general result with fewer rolls.
