Post by: RPGPundit on April 13, 2017, 08:26:43 PM
So here's my blog entry  (http://therpgpundit.blogspot.com/2017/04/a-couple-of-magic-items-from-lion-dragon.html)with a sampling of some of the magic items I'm putting into my upcoming medieval-authentic OSR RPG, "Lion & Dragon"!

Specific items with unique historical ties, I like it.   They're better than most magic items you see.  The only improvement would maybe give some of them a restriction/geas and maybe beef up the lore a tad to maybe include a little more on what made them or why the item has those powers.

Thanks for the feedback!  A number of the items do have certain restrictions or side-effects.  As for Lore, I tried to put details on the origins of magic items and whatnot, but I also didn't want the section to end up exceedingly full of fluff that might seem like too much filler.

I always like magic items to have a specific background and tale.  It's much more fun to get your hands on Alakazam, the Goblin-Slaying Sword once wielded by Rachid of Marabia than "it's a plus-one sword."

Exactly. And the majority of the magic items (which turned out to be a bigger list of items than I'd originally planned) have a story behind them, and a ton of them are rooted in history or historical legend.

I like unique items, these are cool.

So you dont die at zero hp then in this system? There is some kind of roll to survive?

No survival rolls, you can survive up to a certain amount of negative hp. Depending on how negative your hps get, you might be able to be saved by standard medicine, or only by magic.  Unless you get stabilized at negative hp, you'll die; how long it takes to die depends on how far into negative hp you are also.

I don't know if I saw it mentioned anywhere, but is this game "medieval authentic" Europe in any particular region and century? For instance, is it England circa 1066 or Spain circa 1094 or...?

The default is the time-frame of the Dark Albion book; so medieval authentic for mid-15th century western Europe, and more specifically England.
