This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. It looks like multiple status effects will be pretty rare in this. Not all of the actions give status effects. And of those that do, they have really short duration. It would be exceedingly rare for an enemy to be hit with even two status effects at the same time from these maneuvers.

That said, criticals should be more interesting and tactical than they are in 3e. That's definitely a good thing.

I think these are interesting.  The fact that they work on opposite sides of the die (and the opponent) is a nice flavor.  

Jadrax's 'simplification' really would suit this well (though in 3.x you'd have to define the 'free action' as an 'additional standard action'.
