This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A bargain!

Isn´t it?

I mean, is our fandom not crazy enough to warrant a higher price tag?
Velvet Underground Tapes are bringing in more money.

Not that I´d pay those amounts.
But there oughta be a better market for it, no?

It's 1 of 1000, not 1 of 2 like that Velvet Underground imprint was. And the "box itself is in Poor condition", with the rest being Fair? I can't see 1700$US being a 'bargin'.

I agree that that's a very fair price for a woodie. They've gone for more than three times this.

I once conversed regularly with a comic book store owner--who'd acquired the store from the original owner, and inherited some gaming books. Because of that some people would bring in used games and try and sell them--one brought in a copy of VERY near mint White box D&D, and not wanting to mess with getting a fair price, and evidently oblivious just gave it to the store owner.  (So mint a mis-cut page still had the accidental fold in from the cutting machine and no discoloration of the pages at all)

I told him I couldn't pay what it was worth, and to be fair he should take it and sell it to a convention...

I don't kick myself over it or anything. Except when I see E-bay auctions going for that much for such a thing.

I just won an E-Bay auction for the Moldvay edition D&D Basic boxed set (including "The Keep on the Borderlands" and original dice!) to replace my copy of the Basic D&D book. :)

I hold your Moldvay Basic and raise you one Expert box.

Got both of them in the mail last week... including the crayon, of course.

Joy!

If anything, I'd say that "collectibles" in our hobby go for much higher than they really would in any other fandom.  It's the nature of a hobby full of geeks, obsessive completists, and bibliophiles.

Out of morbid greed and curiosity, how much would a white-box in near mint be worth, ya think? Got one lying around somewhere. :)

Werekoala, it depends on whether or not it has references to hobbits in them. (If so, good; if not, still not bad).

At the time, most of those I'd seen were only going for about 50 in ziplocs--this one had a box, and was in much better shape and I told him. I think he got a 100 for it--but this has been more than a decade ago.
