This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Justin Alexander;547007The report I've heard from a guy who's in no position to know anything is that 7th Edition is going to be a real, honest-to-god, serious revamp of the system which might even break compatibility with previous editions.

I'm betting he's full of crap. CoC rules get tweaked, not drastically modified.

B.T.

I keep seeing COC releases, and none of them include a rules overhaul.  What a shitty company.
Quote from: Black Vulmea;530561Y\'know, I\'ve learned something from this thread. Both B.T. and Koltar are idiots, but whereas B.T. possesses a malign intelligence, Koltar is just a drooling fuckwit.

So, that\'s something, I guess.

I know, it's like they're committed to some kind of not-fun grognardy rules to the point they won't advance the game and make people who like the old rules into not-gamers.  What the hell is the matter with them?

Ha ha.

It could be worse.  Chaosium could have just let the editions go out of print and never do reprintings or bother with new editions with errata changes.

Truth.

For my gaming dollar, Chaosium = Awesome.

To the OP, perhaps you could buy a second hand copy of 6e from Amazon and then wait for the 7e which is reportedly coming out next year.

I expect it to be a tweaking. The main benefit of 7e will, I hope, be vastly better organisation.

I hope so though it would be interesting if an overhaul would be better than the typical rules tweaking. New is not always better but it sure can be fun.

I have yet to see anything completely shitty from Chaosium. Truth be told, CoC is my go-to game for running something, even at a moment's notice. Cannot say the same thing for WotC, Palladium, or White Wolf. The hardcover Dreamlands book has one of the best covers for a RPG setting I have ever seen.

From what I know the 7th edition of Call of Cthulhu is a big departure from the usual ruleset.
The manuscript has been delivered to Chaosium so it is in their hands now.

Boy, and I thought WotC were greedy.

Those are limited run books.  Not nearly as many printings were made as D&D books.  And probably didn't cost as much.  And didn't have as many add-on books as D&D that were needed.

Doesn't excuse a lack of a rules update.

Rules update or rules change?  People can't play CoC as the rules are?

danbuter

That's because the rules work, and Chaosium isn't filled with wannabe "innovators".
