This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Also, it will be WoD-compatible. Ever wanted to roll up a Half-Dwarven Ventrue Vampire Cleric? If so, you're a sick fuck. But it'll be possible in 5E!

5e will interface directly with your brain.  5e will convince hot girls to give you blowjobs.

Thank you Pundit, your infinite wellspring of asshattery is a constant source of amusement to the world. Kudos! :D

Development will start in late 2009, release will come in mid-2013.

That's the plan, anyway, I'd guess. Things can come up, like a rushed .5 edition.

I have this sort of fantasy going that 4.x will be a really good game but that instead of replacing it they'll supplement it with a genuinely different 'basic D&D' lower-fantasy game that will claim the #2 spot in the RPG market.

But since I can't wait for them to do it I'm going to write that game myself.

We won't see anything before 2015, I think, unless 4E severely screws the pooch to the extent that not even a 4.5 patch can save it. I don't think it'll be later than 2020.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Hasbro will buy White-Wolf and merge them with WotC to create Wizards of the Wolf (WotW). They will also recruit handful of indie designers. So while Bill Slavicsek will resign, Ron Edwards will replace him. The D&D 5e will have three variants. Narrative D&D (code name Bat), Gamistic D&D (code name Wheel) and simulationist D&D (code name Brain) which will not be published, but be lot talked about.

The design team will consist of Luke Crane, Paul Czege and Tony. They will publish it in hundreds and try to sell it on cons. First as an ashcan... and so on.

I predict 5E will come when WotC finally realizes the error of their ways and buys the rights to Forward... to Adventure! for oodles of cash.

Well considering that Star Wars Saga and Nine Swords have been well received I doubt 4E will "screw the pooch". To me what be interesting is how the OGL will play into all this. Because unlike any other major edition change, this time the current fans have a clear way of playing what they always enjoyed and still get new material.

The release of older PDFs, OSRIC, Labyrinth Lord, and Castles and Crusade have caused a variety of niche markets to spring up. Since 3.5 dwarfs all those by comparison it will be a huge niche. If 4.0 isn't that different then a dynamic similar to that of 3.0 to 3.5 come into play.

As for a 5th edition, I think it depends on the success of the digital initiative. If it works and the virtual tabletop stuff draws in a host of old and new gamers then future edition will look like how major updates work for MMORPGs. Otherwise we will see a 5th edition that will address what WoTC consider the weak points of 4th edition.

I predict the internet will burst into flames at the release of 5e. crazy, I know, but I've just got a feeling.

I don't know when 5e edition will be publish... but I know that when it does, a large portion of 4e players will bitch and gripe about how they wont upgrade.

Settembrini

I don´t know how the 5th Edition will be played.

But I know the sixth edition will be played with sticks & stones.

Ok, so I guess I have to postpone buying any D&D PHB until they are getting it right and the Final Edition appears?

How many numbers are there, anyway?
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.

Aw, crap!  You beat me to it!  :D

We won't get much time to play 5e. Mostly we'll be using the corebooks to stave in the heads of the onrushing hordes of the zombie apocalypse.

They're ALL readable - just some are less headache causing than others.

Also some of them make us smile or laugh......just depends on the week and which pipe he's smoking when he's typing them.
