Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Interesting 4e review

Scenario. Story. Plot. Adventure. Narrative. Module. Arc. Campaign. Game.

I use them all with impunity. Fie upon those who say I shouldn't.

Quote from: David RLike Balbinus said - prewritten. I also like to add by just one person. I prefer the term story because everyone around the table had a hand in it's creation.

Huh. I've always thought of them as the opposite - a story is over and done with while a plot is just a plan.

*shrug* I consider story the ongoing process of a rpg session where everybody plays a part. Plot forms the basis of the story - which is traditionally started by one person - the GM.

Quote from: StuartI think WotC did something very bad when they decided to market the game under the premise "the game remains the same".

They should have just said -- here's an exciting new take on D&D.  It's a reimagining of the game (just like Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who!) and while there's lots you'll recognize, it's a brand new game.

I would have even considered calling it something else, like D&D Tactics, or even Advanced D&D Miniature Battles.

That would have avoided virtually ALL of the negative feelings about the new edition, and had people just focusing on the good stuff.

I like RPGs.  I also like Tactical Wargames with Minis. Telling me 4e was an RPG put me off the game.  If I stop thinking of it in the same way as the RPGs on my shelf, and instead like Tactical Mini games I have (or want -- like Cadwallon), then my feelings about 4e are different.

The more you post the more I think I need to build a shrine to you in my living room. You say some profound things, amigo. I think you may be on to something here.

Quote from: Arsenic CanaryI think that everyone is avoiding the big issue here:  namely, the nerfing of Magic Missile!

They should have renamed the spell rather than wreck an icon of the game since its inception - magic missile is a spell that always hits. It was something the wizard could count on. The "infinite use" ability should have been named "Eldritch Bolt" or something. *sniff*
