SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Pierce InveraritySee, and that is exactly why threads like this one tick me off.

Baseless speculation about random snippets. What's the point?

Unless you've got more info than the rest of us?

Pierce, the point is that as of today there are lots of people actually playing this game and able to report whatever they want about it.

You can get the quick start rules here: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/news_20080229.zip

You can see more info, including the player hand outs, spells, powers, and so on here: http://ddxp.tumblr.com/

Whenever more legible scans of those handouts start appearing online, you'll have enough material to play through the basic scenarios.  You'll know exactly what the intro game is like, and whether it's good, bad, or ugly.

Quote from: James McMurrayOk. Whatever you want to call it. What it isn't, is factual.
That's not true, either.  I believe what you mean to say is that it isn't conclusive or definitive.  Wizards of the Coast itself is the source of the information. What do you suppose they want people to do with that information? Give it a big ol' rubber stamp of approval?  Well, okay, they probably would like that, but...they want people to speculate on what the game is going to be like.  And I wouldn't be surprised if they're gauging the negative speculation.

Like I said, call it whatever you want. If I failed to express myself the first time, repetitive semantic debate isn't going to change that.

I will call it Nancy, then. And I blame you and your failure to express yourself.

And did you read my comments about why Wizards posts these little sneak-peaks to the Internet? You don't come off looking all that clever by repeating that speculation prior to the actual release of the published game is pointless.

Glad to be of service! :D

If I wanted to look clever I wouldn't be on an internet forum. When did I say speculation prior to release was pointless? Granted, you've admitted to not understanding me, so I assume that assertion is just another misunderstanding?

Isn't that what you intend to suggest when you pre-empt discussion by stating "Impossible to tell anything beyond baseless speculation at this point"?  Or am I just misunderstanding you?
QuoteGranted, you've admitted to not understanding me..
No, no.  I agreed that you were failing to express yourself. :)

What I meant was that it's impossible to tell beyond baseless speculation.

Fortune favors the bold, little man.  My speculation is based upon the finest sneak-peeks, snippets, and pseudoscience available.  I play directly into their cold, calculating clutches.

Yes.  And I pee on you.

I'll assume that's some sort of sasquatchian honoring ceremony. Thanks!

Even bears will run scared from you now.

Thank you! Now I need only get myself a high powered gun and I can step up to defend the nation.

And here I was afraid we'd gotten off on th wrong foot.
