Heed my words. Wizards lied to us! We should all wait two years before buying this game, just to show them we wont be trifled with.  This game is totally going to fail. Whether or not its good and fun and sells well don't matter- it's going to fail on priniclple! Even if it doesn't fail, it still fails. Because if there's one thing therpgsite has taught me is that you don't have to be wrong when your wrong!
You are posting in a troll thread.

Amazing.

I remember somebody in rpg.net (I can't remember who) said that if D&D4 is not the biggest seller in the history of RPGs ever, he'll eat his hat. Being #3 in the Amazon books ranking is no easy feat (sorry for the pun). Do you think D&D4 will outsell D&D3?
Grając zaś w grę komputerową, być może zdarzyło się wam zapragnąć zejść z wyznaczonej przez autorów ścieżki i, miast zabić smoka i ożenić się z księżniczką, zabić księżniczkę i ożenić się ze smokiem.

That's almost cheap enough to make me think about purchasing it? I wonder how  long this sale will last?

No, I don't. I'm in the 3E > 3.5 > 4E camp.

That said, the amazon figure is staggering. Where are all these preorderers coming from? Not from enworld, that's for sure. So how did they even hear about the release?

On a side note, who TF is Stephenie Meyer, and what are those books by her like which dominate the Top 10?

I'm scared of the answer, but maybe there's an RPG in there.

Although obviously folks don't only shop online, it's still pretty damn common. And Amazon does a good job of suggesting related products to folks who have purchased from them before.

Also, online message board represent a tiny minority and, comparatively, tons of folks play D&D.

"Which edition do you prefer?" and "Which edition do you think will sell the most?" are two different questions.
Quote from: Pierce InverarityThat said, the amazon figure is staggering. Where are all these preorderers coming from? Not from enworld, that's for sure.
There are in fact plenty of people on ENWorld posting positive things about 4e. There are a lot of complaints, to be sure, but human nature being what it is, people are more likely to say something when they have a complaint than when they're happy. Look at (ugh, I hate to bring this up), the World of Warcraft forums. Go take a quick peek; I'll wait. It's difficult to find product forums more filled with negativity and complaints. And yet the game keep racking up millions of sales. Those complaining don't represent the majority of players.

And judging from the Amazon sales rank (I've seen it hit #2 before dropping back down to #3), I'd have to say that those who have stated they're sticking with 3.x and never buying 4e are very much in the minority among traditional, mainstream RPG players.
Quote from: Pierce InveraritySo how did they even hear about the release?
In addition to the ENWorld forums, there's RPG.net, publisher forums (such as Necromancer games), Wizards forums, just visiting the Wizards website, Dungeon and Dragon magazines, FLGS, friends, etc.

No shit?

QuoteThere are in fact plenty of people on ENWorld posting positive things about 4e.

This is a misunderstanding. I am not saying no enworlder likes 4E. I am saying that I suspect the combined posters of enworld, the WOTC boards, and rpg.net are far too few to account for an amazon sales rank of 3.

So, the vast majority of the preorders are from people without infraweb presence. How do they even know 4E is going to be out? Was there some massive commercials campaign?

No, I don't think an ad or two in Wired is a sufficent explanation.

That you know of.

Doesn't your hero Sett say D&D is the biggest game out there? Why wouldn't they know about it? Why this assumption that all gamers are in the dark about 4e?
