Title: 40K - Will Tap The Warp With My Mind For Food!
Post by: Ghost Whistler on May 14, 2013, 05:42:17 AM
Psykers serve in the military.

Psykers serve in the Ordos.

Psykers serve as Astropaths.

What else do they do, once sanctioned? What's the average working day otherwise for an Imperial Psyker?

I'm thinking of restarting Dark Heresy; 2 starting characters isn't enough for even the job of acolytes so I'm going to do something a bit less grandiose to start with (perhaps like the Kal Jericho comics). They can get involved in a more local scene rather than be tasked with doing shit for an Inquisitor bcause low level characters really do start out as cannon fodder.

Well, sanctioned Psykers also show up in the personal bodyguards of ranking personages and nobles, could aid the Arbites in investigation, whatever, it really depends on their specific gifts.

If you only have two, you could always make them more experienced so it makes sense that they might be capable with only two of them.

2 players, 1 psyker.

(t'other is an assassin).

Quote from: Ghost Whistler;6544242 players, 1 psyker.

(t'other is an assassin).

That's practically begging for an Inquisitor to assign them as...I mean, get them hired as...the 'staff' of some lowly noble (who happens to be doing VERY BAD THINGS, most likely!).  Any noble worth his salt in the Imperium has at least an assassin; a more prominent, even if not powerful, noble might very well keep a psyker if his position warranted.  Perhaps the son of the local Lord Planetary Governor, or Lord Commander of the PDF for the planet?

Great idea.

However the real issue I had was more mechanical. Two characters - particularly at lower ranks - doesn't provide enough breadth of skills/ability and enough of a chance to succeed where needed.

For instance low rank characters simply cannot act against daemons; daemon traits are such that they are penalised beyond the ability to do anything at more than 10% of the time.

Not that fighting daemons right off the bat is necessary.

That's why you fight cultists instead of demons. Not to mention people who sell evil Tau equipment on the black market, or any other numerous heinous crimes against the Imperium.
