I paused; then said, "ok, you tell the story; but I'll tell you when and what for dice rolls. Go ahead and tell the story."
I was just about to say, because I am running this game. You can run another game later. Then I thought, oh what the hell. Let's do it.
I played a character too, but I let her choose my character for me. She chose for me to be a Fighter, with a sword. I was in essence the Tank. My character died, as we were exiting the dungeon. I was ambushed by a dire rat, after surviving the showdown with the Big Bad. I had no healing magic, and I had already used my single healing potion. Awesome. Just Classic.
Great show!

And thus was a story gamer formed... :p
Great story!
That's precious.
This might actually be the best thing I read all day. Nicely done!
Daw, that's awesome! :)
I don't think of myself as a story game fan, but i guess that is pretty much how I run a game for a kid / kids.
I try to be spontaneous about it, and not bulldoze their character with super hard challenges. Every challenge is beatable, but not an automatic win. If I play a character, I do so to help their character survive. My character isn't more powerful than their character is.
Good stuff, man.
