...if it´s in German
So, the German publisher has run out of PHBs, and is full on the 4e Bandwagon.
At the time of this writing, the average ebay price of a German language 3.5 PHB is €50 [~$75]+, with single auctions reaching the €80ies [~$120].
Even 3.0 PHBs crop up these days and fetch better prices than half a year ago.
I presume the US are still flooded with PHBs, and such a development is not to be experienced?
I've been having that problem here in America, but with the Rules Cyclopedia edition.
Right now, at least as of a few weeks ago, you could find English language 3.5 PHBs online (ebay) for a dollar or so apiece.
Yeah, my local used books store has many copies of it (in english) for dirt cheap...
Between the spousal unit and me, we've got 4 3.0 phbs, 2 3.5 phbs, two different versions of the 3.5 srd in html, and a thoroughly bookmarked 3.0 srd on pdf. I think we're covered. :D

Why would Americans want a PHB in German?
What?

That reminds me; I need to start checking on prices for some of the 3.5 books that I never ended up getting; I'm hoping that their prices have all tanked to just a buck or two.

I totally expected a glut of 3.5 books to hit the aftermarket.
I'm finding that the few books are really want are hard to find and/or not any cheaper than new.
This makes me suspect that the body of 3e fans and diehard players is bigger than their presence on internet forae suggests...

I've seen a chunk of books, but not a truckload at Half Price Books. It looks like it's mostly publishers (including WOTC) dumping old stock instead of players recycling their books.
3rd and 4th are so different that I don't see 3.5 being made obsolete by 4.0 in the same way that 3.0 was made obsolete by 3.5.
Well, I'm patient. If they still haven't tanked, what's another year or two to see if more and more holdouts eventually unload them for cheap?
Quite a bit of 3.x material has shown up at the local McKay's Used Books, but most of the WotC and select Third Party stuff has retained enough of its value that it is going for 60%-75% of listed price instead of the normal 50% or less of listed price, and it is still moving through the shelves at a healthy pace. I don't think that 3.x is dead by a long shot.

Squeeee! I don't think I saw you at all this past GenCon. Of course, I only managed to get there for a day. Between the Midnight screening and the dealer hall, I hardly saw any of my buds.
Next year though!

Yes, I've been thinking the same thing.
Evidence:
- Local stores that had marked down their 3e stuff right before the release of 4e have put the remaining books back to regular price.
- Prices on the used book market for the best 3e titles aren't down much, if at all.
- Circulation at my library (and others in our county) of 3e stuff is still robust.
This is good news for Paizo, methinks.

I wasn't there this year... Circumstances, money, sick cat, and wife-out-of-townness all made it rough. Hopefully next year again!

I've seen a few folks unload all their WotC stuff starting for 99 cents each on ebay. I was able to pick up a few books for a couple bucks each, but there were a few I wanted that still jumped up pretty high.
Yeah, and at least in Germany it´s totally that way. You pay mor for a used 3.5 PHB than for the 4e corebooks in shrinkwrap.

As usual, Sett, you are full of shit.

One 4th edition player's handbook for 34 euro, 3rd goes for 31, 5 and a half and 1 euro.
Several online shops I just checked still have the third edition players handbook in spades.
My take is, that a lot of books haven't hit aftermarkets because most roleplayers don't throw out old editions when they buy a new one.

As usual, 90% of the times Sett gets flamed on this forum people are just full of shit. I make allowance for a 10% rating of legitimate flaming ;) I mean, you got to hate his spelling, grammar, and punctuation, not to mention being cryptic on key points.

The main reason German (and French, Spanish, Italian,...) D&D books are more expensive is that they are rarely available as pirated PDFs.
As for (English language) 3.5 sales figures, I can confirm (coming from my limited, personal experience) that they've risen quite a bit over the last months as far as online sellers go (Ebay, ABEbooks, Amazon,...). 3.5 sales plummetted around January - with the collectors DMG going for 1,99 dollars a piece, Eberron books a dollar each, etc - but they have been on a steady rise ever since.
Windjammer,
Saphim is a cyber-stalker. Of the twenty posts I read of him before I IL´d him, 18 were threadcrap-answers to anything I´d say.
And 100% of times I see people quote him, it´s a slur against me or Pundit, usually without anything to back it up. I´m pretty sure he´s the Sock of someone I know from Germany. He´s on a revenge trip, because he knows he doesn´t stand a chance in German, so he spreads lies and slurs to theRPGsite.

I just got back from the local McKay's Used Books. The pricing there for 3.5 Core Rulebooks was $20 each, up from $15 each two weeks ago. The prices fluctuate in response to demand, so there's some anecdotal evidence to consider.
I run a Comic and Game shop, I slashed prices on 3.5 stuff, and I sold most of it.
Now, I'm selling very little in the way of 4th edition (and not because I don't want to), and I'm having a LOT of requests for 3.5 edition books. I've had several customers dump their 3.5 books BEFORE 4 came out in hopes of making more money than if they had waited. Now they are recollecting all of their old books.
So, I can believe that the 3.5 market is probably fairly strong and growing. At least the official stuff. I myself will probably start rebuying some of the books as I didn't enjoy 4th edition at all.
I have enjoyed Pathfinder.

1) *gloat*/wow
2) That´s actually bad, as D&D goes, so goes the hobby.
