This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

After searching on ebay and finding some "like new" stuff that looked OK I got my friend Joe "the neoanarchists guide to north america" and "system failure".

I looked thru them both, and was impressed by the article on neo anarchist economics at the begining of the guide. Wow, at least someone made something useful out of economics class! Only a gamer....

The system failure book, you could tell it makred the transition from FASA to Wizkids, as it managed to work a few f-bombs in whereas the older versions never did that.

I hope he likes them, any shadowrunners out there want to tell me if I got him good stuff or duds?

Mr. Analytical

Economics is at least as much fun as physics when it comes to speculating about settings.  My current game is all about the economics of early modern France and the transition from a medievel system to a more capitalistic system based upon patronage.  Though admittedly my grasp of economics is shaky and the woman in the group who teaches it practically burst into tears when I mentionned tariffs and collective bargaining.

Charles Stross' Merchant Princes series is a nice example of economics applied to fantasy worlds.

It makes sense when you think about it... ALL RPGs are sooner or later about money.  If you develop the economic system in which the characters are operating you can have all kinds of fun.

You ought to know that the second you say ALL games involve economics sooner or later someone will either claim there's a game that doesn't involve economics, or speculate about making one.

Soooo, to beat the rush, are there games that don't use anything like economics, and if not would anyone like to take a shot at writing one?

I hear a lot about "Exalted" and "In nomine" being some aort of religious themed games, I wonder if they do much with economics?

Speaking of economics, what would an original name for money be in a future game? Credits has been used to death, so what else would work?

I was thinking MUs, for Monetary Units, pronounced "Myoos", or FUs, for financial units, fyoos. The second option would be more of a bad joke, tho.

Mons, for monetary, might work but has some other connotations. Maybe monits, as used in spacemaster but nowhere else AFAIC.
