This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

All the original art is being modified to include lots of spikes and really big swords.

Quote from: Sacrosanct;546721See, and I like the old art.  Not necessarily the boobies, but you can't replace Tramp, and I really liked the comics (something you haven't seen since and the lack thereof I blame for people taking the game way to seriously), and the side scrolling illustration in the DMG that covered several pages.
Oh, yeah, I would love to introduce the newest generation of gamers to Tramp and Sutherland and Dee and all the rest.  But even moreso, I would like to get the older rules back in circulation.

Quote from: Sacrosanct;546640Yeah, I'm a bit worried about that, because I remember, years ago, Trampier state that he holds the rights to his artwork because he was wanting to put together a project of all his Wormy Stuff.

If Tramp does hold the rights, and since he appears to want nothing to do with rpgs, it might be problematic to use the same art.

But I doubt that, because the covers reuse some of the old art.  So they have to be able to use it all.

I believe if it is reproduced directly as part of a 'collection', the current case law favors the publisher.  It's a shame that when TSR released the Dragon Archive CD-ROM that the case law precedents weren't in place, because it sure could have used those precedents back then.

Then again, I've got my copy of the Archive, so I'm good.

That's why DJ Barr is still my favorite Traveller artist.

Dave Dietrick is technically amazing, and I love his view of the Far Future, but DJ Barr's cartoons capture the experience of actually playing the game, and that's priceless.

Man, a perfectly OCR'd pdf of the DMG would almost be better then a new copy of the original, I hope they sell the pdf too.
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

I am sure it wouldn't be unprecedented, but it would be pretty damn stupid to put all that work in to a file that is (obviously) quite easy to translate into a pdf, then not make money on it.  Sales of just the pdf should re-coup their investment.  Those four pages are waaaaaay better than the crappy scanned files I have seen.

If they make the 1e books part of the DDi, and ever finish the "electronic tabletop" and include the 1e rules with it, I will subscribe to it.  Period.

Reward good behavior.

Agreed. Donna Barr is also great with "Stinz" and "The Desert Peach".

They should have just hired this guy:

Would be much cooler if they did!

Yes, the images are crisp and not a Rorschach image. :)

Quote from: thedungeondelver;546664Yup.

Probably, like the covers, more "replacement" "tribute" art that "evokes the old illustrations".

how i see it happening as well.  looks like you hit all the right buzzwords, too :rotfl:

Quote from: Benoist;546668I hope not.

I want the real deal, thank you very much. Full illos please!

not likely, methinks, alas.

good to see the originals (esp. the tramp one!) in that MM preview.

Maybe the contrast on the illos is a tiny wheeny bit too high but what the hell. This could have gone wrong in Oh-so-many ways that I'm pretty happy with the results here.
