This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Jonathan Tweet wrote a short article detailing some of the history leading up to D&D Third Edition,  Ars Magica, an unpublished  faux-Greek-myth RPG, an unpublished RPG set in the world of Magic: The Gathering and using streamlined rules derived from the AD&D rules with ways to use cards, and other details. I thought it was interesting enough to mention here. You can read it at this LINK.

It will be interesting to see what he has to say about designing 3e.  Considering he stopped playing DnD in 79 he should probably just stick to what he knows.

Thanks for the pointer---I wouldn't have seen this otherwise!

You could argue that a lot of us stopped playing D&D around 1979 simply because, according to Gygax's own pontifications, anyone not playing his version of D&D was not playing D&D. And, as his version was largely unplayable as written, the house rules we all created meant we weren't playing D&D.

3E might have had its faults but I'm glad it sounded the death knell for Gygaxian non-sequitur design.
