This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WoW Cataclysm - should I wait a week or two?

It goes live this week, and I'm thinking of getting back in. Of course, I'm thinking the servers are going to be slammed this week, so I'm considering waiting a week or two. Anyone familiar with the last two expansions know if this is a good idea, or should servers not really be an issue?

Burning Crusade was a clusterfuck because every player on a server was funneled into a single zone causing the server to go down more often than a dollar whore.

Blizzard learned from this and when Wrath released things went much smoother. Based on what they were able to do with the Lich King I would say that Cata should be fairly decent from day 1.

Besides, if the new areas are too crowded, the old world got a huge makeover and actually has enough new content to be worth playing through again.

I got back into the game with the Shattering, i.e. the redesign of the whole world and it was well worth it. Even if you are not going to level from 80 to 85 right away or are not interested in one of the new races, then it is worth it just for the HUGE redesign everything got. I for one am quite happy with how WoW is now. But then you should take my opinion with a grain of salt, because I am a very casual player.

Other than graphics, what's new in Cataclysm gameplay?

It is not as stupid anymore. In WotLK you could brute force your way through anything, instances, raids... In Cata, at least while I played it, dungeons and raids have become a thinking man's game where you get severly punished for just standing around and hitting 2 buttons. The game now demands crowd control, movement etc. Well at least at level 85, before that it is still as easy as WotLK was.
