This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

WOTC Embarrasses themselves in another arena

I know a lot of people here don't follow videogames, and so might have missed this. Short version:

Somebody modded the Baldur's Gate III characters into the extremely popular farming sim Stardew Valley, and WOTC issued them a DMCA takedown notice, even though the CEO of Larian Studios (which made BG3) personally endorsed the mod. The move was so universally unpopular that WOTC is now having to not only back down,  but pretend the DMCA was a mistake.

In the videogaming scene, copyright claims against fan content are a very hot topic and extremely unpopular; it's probably in the top 5 most reliable ways to generate hostility. So this is a cataclysmically stupid move, especially for a company that's only had one videogame success in the last 20 years.

Playing: Mongoose Traveller 2e
Running: On Hiatus
Planning: Too many things, and I should probably commit to one.

Come, now.
Who doesn't have that issue that you send out takedown notices by accident?

Happens to me all the time!

Why just yesterday I accidentally issued 3 C&Ds! Mea Culpa.
Old School? Back in my day we just called it "School."
