This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What? No Board games talk?

Love the game, hell there are a couple pics of me up on the zombies site (from origins).

and from what was said in the newsletter from the Twilight Creatiosn they are going to be releasing a zombies 2.0...which is most upto date rules, 50 female zombies (new)and 50 male(old) and a box that holds all the previous expansions and i think room for 100 extra zombies....

I love the game but cant play it much....

it was fun for a good long while, but then I figured out how the Allies could win EVERY SINGLE GAME and it ceased to be so much fun any more.

and if you're of the opinion, "hey the Axis can win...", then we need to get together 'cause I smell a wager in the air.

That's become quite a group favorite for us as well.

I've won once as the Axis powers.  Once.  That was against a newbie player who didn't fully grasp the gist of the game until it was too late.  Every other time though, I've lost, big time.

Dire Wolf

Got tons of board games, but nobody to play them with.  My gaming buddies prefer RPGs so that is what we do 90% of the time.

I stick to the simpler games myself, Zombies, Robo Rally, Monsters Menace America, etc.  I do own most of the newer Axis and Allies stuff but nobody wants to spend that much time on a game.

Check out your local colleages in your area, Here in Atl, we have a big board game community that plays that is based out of Georgia Tech and Georgia State Unv, There is another group at UGA,

Just not my bag. I don't like the "tossing tons of dice" method of resolving battles, and stuff like that.

Plus, I keep losing whenever we play it. :brood:

I spanked a bunch of folk who said that at Gen Con in the past.

I don't get to play board games much either, though I'll occasionally break out the Clue and Sorry! CDs and play them on my decrepit 333 Mhz laptop.

At Gen Con, though, it's different. I play in the Puffing Billy railroad games tournament there when I attend. The Empire Builder variants (typically I try to play each at least once), Rail Baron, Streetcar, Union Pacific, ticket to Ride, and more (though I've never managed to develop a taste for the 18xx games).

I've not played it yet, but some wisearse developed a India/Pakistan Nuclear War variant of India Rails, that combines the Nuclear War card game with the India Rails board game....

GreyOne

I just got Ticket to Ride: Marklin Edition, with the new Passenger rules and Germany board.  Pretty cool, but I haven't played it yet.

I also picked up the Carcasonne Tower Expansion.  I love Carcasonne.

Carcasonne and Settlers are becoming like the d20 of board games ;)

meaning that everyone plays them, yes. meaning complicated, well, not really.

I'm a big fan of Settlers, so I hope you meant the d20 analogy as a good thing... ;)

Being german, I cannot stand "Siedler von Catan" anymore. The only thing that´s worse is Carcassonne. It´s a non game in my eyes. To me it´s like playing yatzee, no significant influence on the game. I know people love Carcassonne, so it must be me.

EDIT:  Did you guys notice that vanilla "Siedler von Catan" is totally luck dependant? Especially if played with clear thinking people. Then trade stops. Because it´s the smartest thing not to trade. it took me some years to figure it out, I confess. but trading is nonsensical. Only when playing with grannies or kids that don´t have the experience or insight is ther e a possibility to profit from trade. But then you are taking advantage of them.

But if you like german style, look at "La Citta". That´s a real gem. Hardcore decision making every turn. And luck is not a big factor.

yeah, vanilla catan is boring. It's much more fun if you just play with resource cards on the table... in full view of everyone. but no, it's not dependant completely on luck. luck is a big factor, but smart placement has a LOT to do with how your game will turn out.
