This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What Games Did You Buy This Year?

Blazing Donkey

Greetings to all...

I switched from PC gaming to a PS3 console in 2010. Here's what I purchased:

Fallout: New Vegas - Excellent & very re-playable, but has a tendency to crash over and over.

Alice - Beautiful and creative backgrounds and objects, but very frustrating because it's really hard to jump and land on certain platforms. Then you die and have to start all over again.

LA Noire - Meh. (There's a whole thread about it already).

Homefront - Decent shooter, but uses a check-point save system and has some frustrating timed puzzles that you have to repeat over and over till you get it.

Duke Nukem - Absurdly hard bosses, full of adolescent antics that are borderline offensive, and overhyped. A real waste of time.

Assassins Creed 3.  Awesome game. Played the hell out of it.

Read Dead Redemption.  Awesome game.  Played the hell out of it.

MMA Supremecy.  It was cheap, it's better then the UFC game.  It got some use but I never really got it to play the hell out of it.

Rock Band 3.  It hasn't gotten a lot of play though but I got it dirt cheap.   It gets pulled out on occasion but I think the fake instrument wave has passed for my crowd.

Dark Souls - was a blast, got to the two bells and had had enough punishment.  It got traded in for...

Skyrim - It's a Bethesda game so it's got the typical slew of Bethesda problems.  But it is absolutely the best game they've ever put out and the best open world RPG to date.

Rocksmith.  What can I say a game where I can connect my guitar into it and play/learn songs up to a note for note basis.  Plus play around with amps, peddals and stacks that I'll never be able to afford in real life.   Its part of the reason Rock Band 3 got shelved.  Its an absolute must have game if you have a guitar.
AccidentalSurvivors.com : The blood will put out the fire.

Peregrin

God help me, I'm not buying any games for the next few years.

Also, I didn't buy it, but I'm in the Tribes: Ascend beta.  It'll be F2P eventually.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

Civ V - The latest iteration of the classic Civilization is simply awesome, Unit Tactics can now completely change the play of the game... That plus I love using nukes, plus there's fallout now, which affects areas not directly hit by the blast.

Skyrim - A gift, but well appreciated,

Paizo's Game Mastery Guide.

Plus tons of new minis including a complete New BSG fleet (4 cylon base stars, a battlestar, a warstar, and a couple colonial cruisers along with over two hundred vipers, raptors, and cyclon fighters and bombers) which was prepped and debuted for this year at Gencon.
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

Skyrim - easily my favorite game in years.

WoW Cataclysm - played for a few months.

Most of the games I play are older, such as Dragon Age and City of Heroes.
Sword and Board - My blog about BFRPG, S&W, Hi/Lo Heroes, and other games.
Sword & Board: BFRPG Supplement Free pdf. Cheap print version.
Bushi D6  Samurai and D6!

Ghost Whistler

heh

MvC3 - half a game, broken online due to a) everyone being absurdly good and b) no spectator mode. Ultimate MvC3 released last month as harcopy only. Fail.
Mortal Kombat - looked great, played reasonably well despite every character basically being the same. X Ray Moves utterly broken the online unplayable.
LA Noire - bollocks from start to finish. Good acting though.
Gears of War 3 - story/arcade mode fun enough, the multiplayer was shite due to terribad map design and the ineptitude of the server (singular). The beta played better.
Arkham City - decent enough, though one too many Riddler puzzles. Catwoman as DLC was the worst idea yet.
Battlefield 3 - shit pc port.
MW3 - shit MW2 port.
Skyrim - enormous, lots of content, bugged to fuck. Can't even start the Thieves Guild quest due to an enormous hugely conspicuous fuck up in the quest that makes the ending to Monty Python's Holy Grail look sane. Better playtesting has to be the watchword in 2012.

I'm sure i played other games (ugh, I forgot Brink). They all sucked too :D

Everything sucks. You suck.
"Ghost Whistler" is rated PG-13 (Parents strongly cautioned). Parental death, alien battles and annihilated worlds.

oktoberguard

Arkham City - great game, though perhaps too many Riddler trophies/puzzles.

Skyrim - better than I feared, but maybe not as great as I hoped... still a good game. It'll be interesting to see what comes down the pike DLC-wise.

Space Marine - again, not a great game, but I had plenty of fun playing it. Hopefully they'll polish the game a little more for a sequel.

Tommy Brownell

Way, WAY too much stuff. In fact, I wrote a whole blog post about it.

But my favorites were both Arkham games, Dragon Age: Origins, Red Dead Redemption and Heavy Rain. Oh...and Smackdown vs Raw 2011 and NCAA Football '09, the first football game I've played in YEARS and the best wrestling game I've played in years. That's not to say those were the only ones I enjoyed, just the ones that stayed with me the longest.

Danger

While not bought per se, I did sink cash into a MMO (World of Tanks), and that is something I never had the urge to do before.

Everything else I spent time on was already bought years ago.
I start from his boots and work my way up. It takes a good half a roll to encompass his jolly round belly alone. Soon, Father Christmas is completely wrapped in clingfilm. It is not quite so good as wrapping Roy but it is enjoyable nonetheless and is certainly a feather in my cap.

Ladybird

Highlights:

Bastion - Game of the fucking year. You are welcome to argue, but you are morally wrong if you do so.
Portal 2 - There are portals. It was a fun way to spend a weekend, but other than going back for one of the achievements, I haven't touched it since. And I was too busy at the time to do co-op, so have resigned myself to never playing that bit.
Saints Row 3 - Most fun game I've played in years.
Dawn of War 2 : Retribution - Best of the series so far, brilliant Ork campaign
UT3 Black - Fun! True story: I dominated one online match I was in. I mean, I utterly wiped the fucking floor with my opponents, then kicked their asses for letting me do it. It was just that one match, mind. Maybe they were console players.
Alpha Protocol - Best RPG I've played in years (If not ever), and pisses all over anything Bioware have done this century.
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) - Another great Mario game.
Dungeon Run (iOS) - Hyperaddictive dungeonbash puzzler, like Puzzle Quest but without the campaign. Amazingly brilliant and time consuming.
one two FUCK YOU

Aos

Starblazer Adventures (used) is the only full game I bough this year. I also got the new Gamma World for Xmass, but I didn't buy it.

I also purchased some supplements, but those were .pdfs that I got on sale for like a buck each
You are posting in a troll thread.

I think the only computer games I bought in 2011 (for me, anyway) were expansions for the computer version of Field of Glory:
  • Rise of Rome [Republican Roman period]
  • Storm of Arrows [Late medieval Europe]
  • Immortal Fire [Greek/Persian/Macedonian Wars]
  • Swords & Scimitars [Crusades]
(I like the tabletop version of Field of Glory better, but the computer version is fun, too.)

Silverlion

Video games? Uh. Skyrim and The Old Republic.

Tabletop Games? I mostly spent my money on color art for H&S2e, but I traded from or used secondary markets to pick up some nice things. Like Witchcraft RPG books I was missing. Nocturnals for M&M1E, Red Star campaign book and 2E  WoD Changeling.
High Valor REVISED: A fantasy Dark Age RPG. Available NOW!
Hearts & Souls 2E Coming in 2019

Got King's Bounty: The Legend during Steam's Xmas sale, and it's been a great ride so far (think HOMM meets RPGs). Be prepared to update your drivers, though, because some old ones will keep crashing until they drive you mad (pun intended).
