A Sega CD.  I'd recommend also getting a model 1 Genesis for this purpose, as you want a Model 1 Sega CD.  The model 2 Sega CD is a disc destroying and failure prone creature of evil.

Flash Carts.  SD2SNES, Mega Everdrive, Everdrive 64, Everdrive N8.

An Atari 7800.

The next console on my list is the Master system.

After that I'm torn between a turbografix or a 2600.

I do have a line on a genesis model 1 w/box. But I'm pretty ambivalent to the CD (and 32x for that matter). I could be sold though.

Oh, Turbographix, aka PC Engine. It was quite advanced when it came out. They are pretty expensive now.

I was very involved in several titles on that platform in the early 90s. I especially liked Air Zonk for its silly flying characters.

I love my Sega CD, but then I got some of its best games.

I'd get a SMS, sega master system, for completion sake. But how about a Genesis Power Convertor to play most of the games and focus on a TG-16 and TG CD, as that'd be harder to find.

And as always, MOAR GAMES! That's way more important than just systems. I'm nowhere near finished with any one of my console libraries, and the SEGA CD is the smallest and most complete of what I have. GBA is going to be an utter pisser. If that's your entire collection in that cabinet, I am most disappointed.

You have the GBA Convertor for your Gamecube?

I try and be really picky with the games I buy, just because I know I can blow my budget picking up everything. But I am slowly building out my collection.

I'm not sure I want to get into pre-crash consoles just yet.

If you were married, all that stuff would be in your basement. Or your station wagon.

I agree.  In all honesty, I have too much. I speak from experience when I say that you can certainly HAVE 1,000 or more games, but you certainly CAN'T PLAY 1,000 or more games.

For the collection go for quality.  Having a small collection means that everything is meaningful.  Having a large collection just means you have a lot of stuff you never have any time to play.  Save the hoarding for the flashcarts.

Incidentally, I think I understand the reasoning for the top loader and toaster NES both being hooked up.  What is the rationale for the model 2 genesis and a model 3 being hooked up simultaneously?  Or is the model 3 just up there for cute factor?

It's actually just the model 3 hooked up at the moment. The model 2 is having some shorting issues. After the second time it reset in the middle of Castle of Illusion I pulled out the 3 to use until I have time to troubleshoot the 2.

What to the Atari 2600s go for these days? I'd aim for one of those, followed by an Intellivision.  Of course, an Intellivision would have to have Advanced Dungeons and Dragons....

Cheap. For a purely functional one maybe $20-$30. For a nice one ~$40-$50.

Good. That's about the same price I paid a decade ago for ours.  Go get one, man.

Eh, it was before my time and I honestly don't enjoy the atari games I have played that much.

Ahh, Genesis, the Voltron of consoles...

You need to attach X-Band/Telemodem, 4-Play Adaptor, Activator, Menacer, and leave a Power Converter +3-D goggles conspicuously attached within frame.

Now you need Silpheed and Dark Wizard.

I was playing Silpheed last night.  It was probably the shmup I played the most back in the day.  I practiced enough that I could get to the final boss without continuing.  But, for some reason, no matter how many antimattter bombs I pumped into that space station of death, I could never finish it.  I'm no where near that level of ability anymore, though.  Last night it took all 5 of my continues just to get to stage 7.  I was a bit bummed out I didn't make it to the giant space battle which I think is on stage 8.

Dark Wizard to this day cries out in the dark to have me play. That music alone!
