This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Brian Fargo finally put it up a little while ago.  It's almost half-funded even though it just launched.

Also, Mark Morgan, the man behind the original Fallout soundtracks (as well as the Planescape soundtrack) will be doing the score.

Oh, and Michael Stackpole is on the dev team, too, along with Jason Anderson (wrote for the original Fallouts).  Makes sense for Stackpole since he was on the original devteam, and designed the T&T derivative Wasteland was based on (Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes).

Man, a lot of old-school CRPG series making a comeback.  That, and you've even got the Double-Fine old-school adventure game Kickstarter that hit 3 million (when they were only asking for 400k).
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

I'll chip in for this. Good team, good games. Between this and Baldur's Gate, it's shaping like a good year!

Definitely.

And damn that was fast.  1.2 mil in about two days.  I really hope this keeps pace, so they'll be able to really deliver a fleshed-out game.

They still have a month to go. Wow.

I am curious where they end up with it. Wasteland was a great game, crazier and more tongue-in-cheek than Fallout in spite of generally being about the same things, religious sects worshipping atomic wreckage included. In a way it is a very good game to showcase the everything goes feel of Gamma World, and has a lot of very satisfactory violence in it.

How much of it can work today without it being turned into Fallout, or porting over some of Wasteland's less lasting ideas, though? That's going to be a hard line to walk.

So in Kickstarter, what happens if you ask for X money and get 3X?  Do you have to prove to Kickstarter you spent 3X on the project and extras, or can you spend X on the project and pocket 2X?
Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

Isuldur is a badass because he stopped Sauron with a broken sword, but Iluvatar is the badass because he stopped Sauron with a hobbit. -Malleus Arianorum

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

They pocket their 5 or 10% (I do not remember exactly), and the rest is yours, I believe.

you're absolutely right - that's the way it works for them.

To be honest I'd say it's down to the person behind the Kickstarter to be clear about what they are going to do with the extra money. (For what it's worth, the Wasteland 2 guys have always been exceptionally clear about this.)

Then again, you also want to consider the rewards you get for funding. In the case of the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter, the $15 tier will snag you a download of the game once it's released, and that's lower than the price point they'll be selling it at once it goes live, so if you already know you'll be picking up the game once it's released there's no point not pitching in, because even if they pocket the extra money they've still openly committed themselves to making the game and you're still getting the swag you paid for out of it.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

The more money the initiative gets, the bigger the game. That's one big argument for paying now instead than after the game comes out, IMHO.

I gave them all my monies.

Or at least a good bit more than I'd normally pay for a game, because I have faith in this dev team.

Don\'t forget rule no. 2, noobs. Seriously, just don\'t post there. Those guys are nuts.

Speak your mind here without fear! They\'ll just lock the thread anyway.

Here is the first screenshot on Rock, Paper, Shotgun, featuring none else but the **SCORPITRON**!!! :D

Of course, there are now a bunch of people in the comment section who are arguing that giant armoured scorpion robots are unrealistic, or that the environment is too colourful. I assume none of them have ever played Wasteland.

I hope they go all the way back to Crazyville and add the cybernetic geckos and nucular mutant rabbits.

[EDIT]
Also,
QuoteThere needs to be more pink. There was a lot of pink in the original Wasteland.
QuoteYes perfect, I want my giant robo-scorpions to be as gritty and realistic as possible.
Ha! :D
[/EDIT]

[EDIT EDIT]
I love whoever did this. Yesssss! :D
