Video Games: What are you playing?

I decided to pay for a month to play DC Universe Online after a four or five year hiatus. Amazingly I still remember some of the missions, though the game is much better than I remember it. It's not as good as City of Heroes/City of Villains but in some ways the combat is better with a semblance of actual physics so for now it scratches that itch.

I've been playing an early access PC game, Stellar Tactics.  It's basically Baldur's Gate (or more like Wasteland 2) meets Elite. Basically you have real time space combat (not as good as Elite, but decent, though weirdly only in a 2d plane) but on the ground you have an isometric view and when you enter combat it goes to turn based.

When it's done, it will have a lengthy story plus a procedurally generated universe with randomly generated missions. Right now it's just got a 5 hour story plus one solar system with a random dungeon, but I've sunk over 30 hours into it.

The RPG mechanics are kinda like BRP with levels. Your skills are 1 to 100 and go up while using them and every time you raise them so much, you level up which gives you more hit points and lets you boost your stats

Me too...so far not real thrilled, but it is functiional. I wished they'd played a bit of Titans of Steel and used the ideas there for a big robot fighting game. Or at least refined things a bit, though that's much to ask of a Kickstarter game.

I've been playing it a lot.  It's fun, but it needs to be re-jiggered quite a bit.  For example, I think the iconic energy weapon (the PPC) isn't worth taking at the moment and that just strikes me as wrong in a Battletech game.

Well, the PPC always was a bit off as a weapon (Battletech was fun, but not a perfect design by any means).

But that's the thing: they felt the need to tweak the rules for some effin' thing. Changing all the damage values is probably the most retarded thing, though changing the cockpit design to include rows of sharpened spikes and 500,000 lose shards of broken class is close (yea gods do pilots take damage all the time), with an honorable mention for "yes, with your leg shot off you can still stand up, run around, and hit someone in the back" design.

Battletech was always a goofy design, with big robots using weapons so wildly inaccurate that battles always degenerated into punching matches, and I'm ok with that. But there's much here that is changed, without any reason as far as I can see.

Gave Conan Exiles another shot last week ( I had not played it for around 4 - 5 months) and it is MUCH improved.  The mood and ambiance in some of the dungeons is spot on.  I think the devs have done tremendously in bringing that game to a launch version this past year.

Playing Super Robot Wars X on the PSTV.  The game is OK.  The cast is a bit weak on characters I give a flip about.  Level/Scenario design is somewhat meh.  The storyline is utterly forgettable standard TRPG/crossover trash.  I make it sound really bad, but it's got solid gameplay and it's just fun to throw the mechs around the battlefield and blow crap up.

Having fun, started a second campaign. I think it could use a weapons balance/fix pass as well.

LRMs are just too good.  Stability damage, relatively low heat, and no LRM chart where you only hit with all missiles on an 11 or 12 on 2d6 means that they are just flat better than every other weapon in the game.

I've been playing No Man's Sky. It's getting a multiplayer update on July 24th and they added a main quest line (single player) in the last patch.

At this point it's a pretty adequate game with some decent mechanics to incentives exploration.

A new Pokemon set of games was announced for November, and the announcement coincided with a sale on eBay. So a couple of nights ago, I ordered a Switch. I have no idea what I'll play on it. Breath of the Wild is probably the best choice. Vanilla Skyrim is mildly tempting, but probably no. Maybe Bayonetta? Or possibly Mario Odyssey. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thornhammer

Have been playing the updated version of Space Hulk: Deathwing.

Adds are a bunch of unlocks for multiplayer/random missions (you can upgrade your weaponry to an extent, and can now do random missions based on maps you have completed), and a couple of new bad guys.  One is an Aberration that totes a mining laser, the other is a kamikaze Nid that explodes upon death or contact with you.

This latter fucker will really get on your nerves - fortunately there is zero chance you'll miss its approach.  It glows purple and has a very loud, very distinct, and very constant scream.

Still no Carnifex.

Update on this. I decided to get Zelda after reading several reviews. Currently I am still playing Pokemon Ultra Sun (146 hours in), since I can farm pocket monsters for future games.

I've been slugging away at this, too...it's not bad for a little game, and definitely captures the board game, but just too lean for me.
