This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Or, why is this game a carbon copy of all the really annoying elements from the first game?

SPOILER:

And the fucking guys with the guns doing the drilling are making me want to punch babies.

What annoying elements were in the first game for you?

I think they've improved on the annoyances quite a bit:

The AI survivor pathfinding has improved to the point that I bring Survivors with me on missions on purpose.

The Messaging system is very improved, you get the alert (without it filling up your screen) and you can put the noise on silent.

You can Move while aiming!

You can defeat the Psychopaths without resorting to exploits(they're still had though).

Oh and chuck doesn't glitch out and move like he has a stick in his butt.

Oh, and you can play through the whole game, the first time, without restarting (I know 'cause I just finished it!).

Oh, and combo Weapons are incredible! Quite possibly the best thing in a video game ever ever(not a typo).

Chuck runs like a man trying not to shit himself.
Chuck is over animated - it becomes awkward trying to orient him in o rder to interact with objects and because the animations for attacking take so long he ends up getting bitten almost constantly. For example, if you do the jump kick, he's vulnerable for about 2 seconds on landing which means he just gets attacked by one fo the other million zombies surrounding him.
There are, really, too many zombies.
Aiming is woefully slow.
The stupid save system (ie relying on using toilets) is still stupid. Even though you have two extra slots, you still have to rely on finding a save point and there really are too few given the map's size.
Most of the items are useless because of their attack animation. The combos are funny but, with the exception of the nail bat, useless. For example pick up the chainsaw (which you willd rop if you change weapon for some reason, meaning you have to start it up again which is slow) and Chuck spins around five times as its attack, leaving him vulnerable.
The survivor ai is improved, but still fucking stupid: armed survivors will fire and attack indiscriminately (ie at you) and, for reasons beyond me, if you try and clear zombies off of them or around them you will hit, knock them down and damage them. That is really stupid.
Moveable objects, like the mower or the wheelchair, are really really awkward to use.
Item decay is still ridiculous.
Random rewards for levelling up.
The time limit is self defeating. I get the idea, but given there are lots of items to find and play with and so forth, it's impossible to get time to do this between missions, and of course this map is slightly bigger. The mall from the first game was also slightly spookier; it had a quality to it that fortune city lacks. This one is a lot sillier and so far less scary. Even though you could do all the silly dress up frank as a girl stuff in DR1, the story, enemies and environment were just proper zombie scary compared to fortune city - and fortune city isn't otherwise that different.

The game's elements just don't really gel and a lot of them work against the player which is a real shame. It looks amazing and the zombies are done well, even though there are way too many to deal with at times.

There are precious few games these days that aren't corporate bollocks. Most games are anaemic and woefully short experiences for the price they cost. Either that or the online is not up to par compared with the merciless lies perpetuated by the ad copy (halo reach).

I'm still waiting for Star Wars Battlefront 3 and I'm disgusted that, because of MS charging for XBKL, the 360 won't get anything like DCU.

There's the real question. There's little point, in my opinion, in discussing video games with Ghost Whistler as he's dissatisfied with everything. You're not discussing the pro's and con's of games with him, just con's con's con's con's con's con's con's con's.

And yet here you are.

Why don't you play DR2 first, and then you can tell me i'm wrong. When you see just how absurdly difficult the boss battles are. Go fight the Bailey twins, then I'll listen to you. IN the meantime, don't fucking patronise me.

I didnt like the original game, the graphics were rather poor, and despite the improvement in the sequel, it still plays the same...

Compared to L4D 1 and 2, this game is a poor poor second.

I think comparing Dead Rising/Dead Rising 2 and L4D1 and 2 is like comparing Starcraft to Halo.

Yeah they both have zombies, but DR2 is more of a action Roguelike with Zombies and L4D is a straight twitchy FPS with Zombies.

DR is a very niche title, you either love it or you hate it. I'm sad to read the graphics were a deciding factor for you. Its hard to fit a thousand zombies on screen in a well developed physics engine where most anything around you can be used as a weapon without losing something somewhere.

I love L4D as well, I can never get enough Zombies! You should look me up on Steam (krakajakmt).

I think there are too many zombies in DR, frankly. Especially as the controls can't deal with you trying to fend off a horde. The boss fights have just spoilt the experience for me. I'm not wired to fight these kinds of fights and as such my enjoyment has taken a hit. DR1 was the same. I can stand the ridiculous imbalances that suggest shooting some fat loon with a chainsaw does no damage, but not when a single hit from him takes half my health.
