This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If you're just doing a catch-all dig at WizKids and Hero Clix in general - then it sounds loike you got personal issues.

Not all "clix" fugures were the same height.

Hell, for trhat matter I liked the cartoony Orcs from first edition MAGE KNIGHT better than the more artsy/realistic looking ones from 2nd edition MK. They had a fun goofy feel to them.

Ever remember that thing called Fun???

Ah, ok, point to you, BUT my statements apply to the original sets of clix games that i knew about, and yes, played:

- MageKnight: CHECK.
-HeroClix: Check.

And yes, to admit, i dropped out when those Wizkids @%%&=?§$ brought
out MK2.0 and declared all of the original MK figs non-sanctioned for tourney use, which lead to the whole clix scene dying. At least, here in Germany.

Why do i assume they will look bad?
Former experiences (repeatedly) with the company.

Why do i assume the bases will be (at least!) 30mm?
Because they were/are that size with MK, MK2.0 and HC. Yes, i did gauge them, rather found out the hard way, trying to use some MK figs with a Chessex Battlemat.

Why do i assume it's sold in randomized boosters&starters?
Because it's a COLLECTIBLE MINIATURES GAME, like all the others!

IMAO:
Those guys messed up "Shadowrun: Duels", they fucked up MageKnight,
and i'm sure they will proficiently mess with Star Trek as well.

Honestly, i'm astounded you work at a "hobby store" and rather seem to know jackshit about the history of WK and their games, at all.

@Ghost_Whistler: Just read the article on Wikipedia about Mage Knight, the part named "Other products". Nicely sums up what happened back then.

Also, I hope there's a "Data" figure with the instant win ability. Oh, the wit!

Anyway, this looks like fun. Wish I had the disposable income to get into it, but Mechwarrior was the last gasp of this sort of thing for me.

You actually bought the mess? oO WOW.

Because it was an utter mess, from beginning to end. Yes, i tried it out, together with friends, CBT chapter companions, and it was utterly hilarious.
It was like CBT dumbed down and it played like a bad satire. Honestly, the game was perceived as an abomination, a bad prank gone horribly wrong, at least here. No wonder it bombed and was put on hiatus before Wizkids closed down.

They even went as far with fiddling with the mech concepts
(AGROMECH or FORESTRY MECH, anyone?) and introduced new factions and even renamed old ones.

Ah, I see. Well, I got introduced to it via my FLGS, and the people there seemed to have a lot of fun with it.

I should mention that I was never that much into Mechwarrior / Battletech and am not in the least a "serious" wargamer. I played some of the MW video games and browsed through a couple of the books and that's pretty much it. So I really had nothing to measure the game against.

Phantom Black

Don't get me wrong. No offense intended, but that game kinda... failed, in almost every aspect.

None taken.

Inssufficient Metal,

Did you have fun with those skirmish miniatures games?

If the answer is yes - then ignore guys like Phantom Black and when the new STAR TREK Clix minis get released - ask for it as a present for Christmas or Chanukah.

Original MAGE KNIGHT and HERO CLIX were basically an excuse to do miniatures gaming as a 'beer & pretzel' games. Same thing for MECHWARRIOR:DArk Age for that matter.

In that spirit - I don't care what the BATTLETECH 'canon' says about them

 They were fun games.

Well that makes sense because Cliks are just a dumbed down miniatures game. The setting though is pretty sweet and is pretty much accepted by most as future cannon. Even thought the Official CBT has yet to move on from the "Word Of Blake" stuff. I think mainly because Topps/Catalyst have yet to finish milking that cow, but whatever. But if you dont like it thats fine. I dont really care for the word of blake stuff. But really dig the star league reborn era. Particularly the Capellan-St. Ives war. I guess to each there own.

Oh and just to stay on topic ST as cliks sounds just aweful. Is it going to be actual figures that "battle"? Say for instance Klingon warrior vs Star Fleet ensign? Or is it going to be enterprise vs bird of war? Either way it sounds like a loser to me. I hope you trek monkeys enjoy it though. I mean Roddenberrys decendents need someone to put them through college. Why not you?:p
