This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

The (kinda) Inevitable Destiny Thread

Also, how badly is it going to abuse my old PC?

Sadly, I have no knowledge of Borderlands, so I don't know.  A buddy of mine is running it on an older PC (for some value of older that I don't necessarily understand because I'm a Mac guy) and said it's still one of the most beautiful games he's ever played.

I'll say on my PS4, the damned thing is stunning.

Thanks.

I just watched the IGN video review that summed it up as a kick-ass FPS nested inside an abortive MMORPG.

I dunno, Borderlands does such a fantastic job of medling the FPS and CRPG experiences that I may have been spoiled. Also treats my battered old graphics card real nice. I'll see how it turns out, it's not like I don't have enough to keep me busy right now.

I'm going to have to go back and check out Borderlands at some point.  I spent the last year or two doing nothing but playing the odd game of Hearthstone, so I'm just now getting back to this stuff.

Quote from: The Butcher;786520Sorry, but I operate in a time zone two years removed from whatever's hot in gaming at the moment, so still busy with Guild Wars 2 and Borderlands 2. I'll look into it circa 2016.

It's absolutely amazing how much money you save that way.

Absolutely! This Skyrim thing is pretty fun, by the way. ;)

Though I freely admit to having cheated my own rules, twice, in the recent past: once for Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel (still debating the wisdom of getting the Season Pass) and again for Warlords of Draenor (the new WoW expansion).

Like Borderlands, Destiny is a shoot-and-loot, and I think that they are both capable of the same level of fast paced action.

Where I would say Destiny is lacking in comparison, is the sheer volume of loot. In both Borderlands, I always felt like a better, or more interesting gun could be around the corner, where I topped out pretty fast in Destiny.

Also, while Destiny is vast, Borderlands is HUGE. Way more map to play with in Borderlands.

But ultimately, Destiny has been a lot of fun for me, and I too am looking forward to the upcoming expansion.

Hit level 20 yesterday with my hunter and thanks to the sweet loot I hold in my coffer I was able to hit level 25 in an instant ! I will polish this character and think of playing a warlock.

So the DLC was released yesterday, I have done the missions, and the weekly epic strike at level 30 (get 5 lousy strange coins for my pain ! Ah, the loot system ...). I have not done the raid yet but will probably do it once I have reached level 30. I still wait for Friday in order to get the urn from Xur. I didn't try the Rokh strike but will try it soon.

Now my charaster roster features a 29 level human titan (man), a 29 level human huntress (woman) and a 25 level awoken warlock (woman).

I got the game a couple weeks ago and have been trying to level up.  I think I just hit level 22.

The game really needs a guide -- like, I have two old chestpieces that have lower light ratings than the chest piece I'm currently using, and I don't know what happens if I break them down, or if I should sell them, or keep them, or what.  It's really hard to know what to do with this if you have no MMO background.

True, this game should have a good in-game guide. There is very good website which features nice guides at planetdestiny.com.

Thanks for the tip -- I'll check that out.

How much of the content is solo-able? One of the MAJOR drags of Star Wars: The Old Republic is actually FINDING people to group with for missions, IMHO.  Also, is it easy to find a group to run with in Destiny?

@FVB - You're welcome.

@Patrick - The whole story mission are doable solo. The strike are done by a fireteam of 3 guardians via matchmaking. The PvP is also done via matchmaking. You can do the daily heroic mission solo as the weekly heroic strike and the nightfall strike (but good luck with that !).

You cannot do solo the 2 raids but you can search for team members at the towers, or on the bungie forum or planetdestiny.com forum via gametag.

I'm have also reach level 30 with my Titan but it is not longer the game achievement it used to be ... Still, my Titan is 30 !

Now for the (kinda) inevitable The Taken King update post.

I think it took a pretty good game and made it a pretty great one. It's hard not to deny the whole "Pre-TTK Destiny is the beta" narrative, at least when comparing the gameplay.

I share your view on the TTK DLC : it is indeed a welcomed update of the original game but the feeling that it is the game as it should have been since the beginning is there ...

At least, Bungie is willing to acknowledge that their first approach to storytelling fails the hard way.
