This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

This game is very, very deep.

It's deeper than Victoria: Revolutions.

The economic model only has eleven commodities, but there are at least half a dozen cabinet departments with economic impact.

Possibly there's a wargame in there somewhere, but I am so overwhelmed by the scale of the undertaking, I doubt that I'll bother waging offensive war.  Possibly I might have to learn defensive war ...
"By their way of thinking, gold and experience goes[sic] much further when divided by one. Such shortsighted individuals are quick to stab their fellow players in the back if they think it puts them ahead. They see the game solely as a contest between themselves and their fellow players.  How sad.  Clearly the game is a contest between the players and the GM.  Any contest against your fellow party members is secondary." This actually looks kind of interesting.

Does it have hotseat multi-player capabilities? What about internet play online?

Can you upload your pix for Country ruler, or are you limited to the graphics library provided with the game?
Blackmoor grew from a single Castle to include, first, several adjacent Castles (with the forces of Evil lying just off the edge of the world to an entire Northern Province of the Castle and Crusade Society's Great Kingdom.

Have they patched the game? When it first came out, their forums were filled with complaints about bugs and out-of-balance play. It really turned me off.

I hope Hearts of Iron III is good when it's released.

I don't know about uploading pictures.

You can do sixteen human players over a LAN or the Internet.

My post above was written before a few hours of play.  Actually, it might be shallower than Victoria.  It reminds me a lot of Trevor Chan's Capitalism II, where there is a lot of interest in loans and prices and managing money and popularity.

Thus far I've tried fairly peaceful countries which have avoided conflict.  That's my preferred style in Victoria.  However, I might resort to offensive war now that the budget is less of a mystery and the tech tree will rapidly become known.

I also haven't tried "post-apocalyptic" mode where resources are scant and one must preside over a decaying welfare state.  Who knows, maybe it's a hoot.  Unlike many decaying states, these fictional states might have intricate, technologically advanced armies, so it would be more like a standard wargame than an economic management game.
