This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My friends had always heard it was good but none of us owned a copy. It plays very slow and builds up so slow that it was less than exciting for those of us playing.  I was the only one who'd played it before, but I don't recall that edition taking as long to build up in play. (It's been a while however, and different players make the experience of any game somewhat different.)

I'm curious about this too.  I must admit I've been put off by the news that the game is essentially just a reversion to and rerelease of 2nd edition.

I had been planning to get the XBox Live Arcade version instead of the boardgame, but it seems as if it has been cancelled or is otherwise lost in development hell.

This is exactly what I hoped would be fixed about Talisman.  The game has always seemed to punish whatever player is actually trying to bring the game to conclusion.  I've never seen the player who makes it to the crown of command first EVER win the game.  The result is a game taking about 6 to 8 hours running around and stalling to see who flinches first and tries to make the suffering end.

The first hour has always been kind of fun.  It's a shame the mid and endgame suck so badly.

Do you know the original, Pundit?

If you do, I can't help you.

If you don't, all I can say is I'd never look at the revised version since, to me, it didn't feel like much more than a theme-ified version of Pachinko. Then again, I also hated Arkham Horror, for similar reasons, and it has a lot of fans.

I bought it as a relaxed, friendly game and it worked well at that. Typically a game of 6 players tends to take a long time, 3 to 4 seems to work well for us.

Basically, I enjoy it for a light-hearted way to chat and play a game while drinking.

I think most of the criticism is being levelled at the artwork and dull look of the game in terms of colour and attractiveness.

We played on the weekend with the non-gaming with the non-gaming wives of two players. They were able to get into the game easily and had a lot of fun.

I would never have levelled a crap artwork or dull look to the game into any of my critique on the game. I think it is a solid, relatively uncomplicated board game.

In fact, I am rather hoping I am talking about the same game now :)

I think it was that Joe Dever wasnt involved, the original artist.

Never played, although I want to. I've heard described by both people who like it and those who loathe it as "dungeoncrawl monopoly".  My understanding is there isn't too much player skill involved.  If you're looking for a game with lots of skill that can be bad.  If you're looking for a simple game to play with your buddies while you laugh,BS, and drink that can be a good thing.  Hope to play my friend's copy sometime soon.
