This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So who else is excited about the re-release of Car Wars?

SJG shipped out copies on April 4th, reportedly, should be in a few stores by now.

Really? First I've heard of it.

I've been holding my breath for a Deluxe Car Wars Kickstarter - which was talked about during the OGRE Kickstarter last year.

everloss

one of the dudes in my group got a bunch of the scenario packs! We haven't played yet, but I'm excited.

Car Wars was one of the first games I ever played! I sucked at it though, and was more interested in the weird backstory and the cars themselves than actually playing (I was 8).

Haven't heard of it before, looks like it may be worth purchasing when it's out on Polish market.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

I'd only pick up Cars Wars again if it got a modern revamp of the rules.

If you like Car Wars, I highly suggest Dan George's Road Kill Rally. I got to playtest this one for several years through its various iterations at PolyCon and its a blast.

It's Death Race 2000 (aka, its a race where you kill pedestrians and other drivers) and during the playtest, the images of the various men, women, geezers and kids that you get to run down were Dan's friends and family.

I agree withthat.
Car wars is great but lets be honest 5 hours to play out 8 seconds of combat is a bit sloooowwwwww

I bought the game, but only played a time or two. On the other hand, I enjoyed the C64 Car Wars game. AADA ftw!

A nice education blog.

Oh man, I played AADA for hours back in college.

Wait! What?

Damnit I have to get this on my shelves, STAT!

Anyhow, Car Wars plays out small duels and battles reasonably fast.  Like Battle Tech and Star Fleet Battles, the problems came when people wanted to play out huge engagements using the ultra detailed rules.

Do we know anything about this re-release?  Is it a new version or a hybrid or what?

Guys, there have been many new releases with more modernized rules. I think they are working on version 6 now? (Sere here for details on 6e).  This is just a special re-release of the original rules.  If you want a modern version of the game...go buy version 5, or wait on version 6.

I hope they get with the 21st century and find a way to do plastic cars/metal cars that are more hot wheels than  "mini" style. And rules to suit.

I miss Car Wars, but I do want something fast and visual and cardboard is so last century.

I played a lot of car wars back in the day. Awesome fun!

We did some mad max style rpg campaigns as well.

Funny how that worked great without an actual ruleset for the characters, just the cars :)

We took care of that long ago. Just scale everything up (including the turning keys) and use actual matchbox/ hotwheels cars.

TA-DA!! :)

We glued them to uniform sized plasicard bases to keep measurements precise. It was pure awesome.

Well the "bigger" sets they produced a while back sans full rules did this as well. I am fine with them using such new measurements and letting me get Hot Wheels, but it would be nice if they got to work with say Jada and their original smaller scale Battle Machines line. Since they had onboard weapons..
