Anything happening? Or did Dancey take the money and run? :D

They've done a few alpha tests recently but it's still early days considering the scope of the mmo...as for dancey and his ramblings it's probably a good thing he hasn't said anything for awhile given he's almost as the guy who used to run lionhead studio's when it comes to saying anything of substance.
It may be a good game, but once again, a DND computer game chooses to NOT use dnd rules.
Blah!
Use the rules dang it!
The oldest boy got Pathfinder Munchkin from his aunt for Christmas, and after playing it a few times, it was kind of neat to see their world in a different format.
The MMO could, possibly, have the same appeal. But it will largely depend on whether their rules can emulate D&D. For example, if your Fighter doesn't feel at all like a Fighter, it will cause suspension of disbelief issues that could outweigh the 'good vibes' from the familar icons, etc.

I don't have a copy of the OGL at hand, but I suspect they may not be allowed to use the d20 rules in a videogame.

Apparently that's not the case, you can use the d20 SRD for a computer game. You could not use the old d20 System License due to trade mark licensing.
Well, I've been keeping tabs on Massively and a few other places, and the current anticipated hotness in MMO space is Wildstar, followed by EQ Next and some expacs for WoW, The Secret World, and LOTRO. Pathfinder Online is waaay down on the list of people's interest level, which doesn't exactly bode well for the product.
D'oh! And The Elder Scrolls Online, too. That's up with Wildstar in anticipation level.

What's with the fetishizing of the word "Next" in franchise renewal these days? What convergence of psychology and marketing has determined that that word is the secret passkey to our souls?
I never thought "D&D Next" sounded right.

I have a Pepsi can labelled "Next" on my desk as I type this. Seriously. What does it mean!?

It's next as used by employees & officials calling out to those standing in lines.

I know what the word means in a dictionary sense. I was referring to my first post. Why has marketing latched on to it now?

I was making a joke that this is how corporations see their products.
I'll take the back door now.
I saw a demo at last year's PaizoCon (July 2013). They have some pretty models in a very nice environment - but that's all you can really say from that kind of demo.
I have no expectation of this even being an RPG in an MMORPG sense - its more like kingdom building using the Pathfinder campaign world.

It's to avoid giving a number, and making the franchise look inaccessible as a result. Same with moving from numbers to subtitles (eg, calling the year's new manshooter Call of Duty : Shootyman rather than Call of Duty 10, or whatever).

You do realize that programming a computer is WAY different than having a living GM, right?
Quote from: nightwind1;725149You do realize that programming a computer is WAY different than having a living GM, right?
Apples and oranges.
There are dnd computer games that used actual dnd rules; Pool of Radiance, Baldurs gate, The older neverwinter nights games, and others.
I simply prefer Dnd games to use dnd rules.
DAE wish that Paizo would release some really solid GMing tools, maybe a virtual tabletop or something instead of a shitty WoW clone?

I sure hope it has some substance/personality and is not a WoW clone.
I believe if they have no giant corporate arch devils funding the project, they can make a good game without infernal meddling.

No.
And while I don't think it will succeed, it's not a WoW clone. It's one of the many "sandbox" games that are all the rage, in reaction to all the wow clones.
