This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, i've got a ds xl on the way. I've got disgaea on order too.

Any recommendations for other games?

I quite like the look of Monster Lab and Lego Battles - although i'm guessing that they both might be for a younger demographic!

Final Fantasy 3 and 4 arent bad if your after old school jrpg type games, then again the ds has alot of jrpg's and other cool games so im sure if you check the pre owned bins of game and other places you'll find some classic gems.

Could you elaborate on what games or categories of games you've liked for other video game systems (or PC?).

If you like dungeon-crawling that requires mapping (old-school CRPG style), the Etrian Odyssey games are neat.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

never been released in the UK coz atlus games dont seem to care about anyone outside japan and the us :(

Mainly RPGs and strategy games.

FF Tactics A2
The World Ends With You
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin

The Chrono Trigger remake is also supposed to be pretty good.

That does suck. Luckily, DS games are not region locked, so you could import the American version and play that as long as you make the correlation between Armor and Armour:P

Back on Topic, OHT I recommend a lot of what others here have. If you like Disgaea, you'd probably like a LOT of Atlus games. My favorite from them is Devil Summoner(A Horror/Tactical RPG), but the rest of the suggestions are great too (Especially the Etrian Oddysey series). Also they make they great Trauma Center games. Surgery has never been so fun!

Also, the XL has the online store, I definitely recommend Photo Dojo. You get to take pictures of your friends and turn them in to a fighter in a Street Fighter like game. It even does 2 players on the same system. I think it's probably the most fun you are allowed to have for $1.

Some of my other favorites I've recommend but with no time for descriptions: GTA: Chinatown Wars, Super Scribblenaughts, the Castlevania series games, New Super Mario Bros. (warning: not very long, but also includes excellent minigames), Poke'Mon Gold/Silver (Fuck you!), and Club House games is a great travel game(basically a collection of games everyone already knows how to play - Chess, Backgammon, Go, Bowling, Darts etc. with same system, wireless and WiFi multiplayer).

Just throwing in with the Etrian crowd and adding another layer of sucks to be you.  But if you like old school dungeon crawling that requires planning, grinding and self masochism.  Then the Etrian Odyssey series is a must.  I've just started playing Etrian Odyssey III on the weekend and it's by far the best in the series.   It's nearing perfection for the genre.

Another must have game for the DS is Puzzle Quest and/or Puzzle Quest 2.  Amazing games, awesome rpg style experience but addictive as hell.  I flip back and forth on which of the two is better they both are good and they are both distinctive enough to feel like different experiences.  So buy whichever one you can find, but if you can pick up both.  Just stay away from Puzzle Quest Galactrics and Puzzle Quest Tactics (forget the actual name).

Yes to these.

Before I got distracted with some tabletop the next rpg I was going to get is Infinite Space, a sci-fi RPG with some ship/fleet management elements.

If you liked Disgaea you probably won't be disappointed with Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2.

If you're interested in sims/farming at all I rather enjoyed Rune Factory, which were the fantasy mashup versions of the Harvest Moon games.

I really felt both of the Zelda games were great.  They made good use of the DS interfaces without being overly gimmicky and played as pretty solid Zelda games.  They were both a bit too short for me, but good, familiar fun.

GTA: Chinatown Wars hardly ever leaves my DS. Hell, I can spend hours just dealing drugs and ignoring everything else in the game. But it does a really good job of using every single component of the DS while not making it seem gimmicky. Personally, I love the car hot-wiring.

Lots of fun. Surprisingly good graphics for the DS.

What about Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon?

One Horse Town

Well, got my device a few days ago - along with Monster Lab (which i find absurdly addictive) and Disgaea arrived today.

Currently, my rampaging monster has a mechanical yak head, a glass-cutter arm, a carnie hammer arm (yeah, carnie as in circus folk. the 2 ingredients for making this are clown shoes and titanium), a mummified elephant's torso and tree-trunk legs. He's awesome.
