This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Need PS3 game suggestions

My wife and I got a PS3 recently, and I want to get a couple new games, but I haven't really owned a video game system in many years.

My wife loves Super Mario Bros-style games - whimsy, adventure, puzzles. We got LittleBigPlanet, which she dug a lot. So I'd love a suggestion in that vein for her. 9I got her the Lego Harry Potter game for Xmas, but it is confusing and dull.)

Being an RPG nerd, I want an RPG nerd video game. One of my all-time favorites was the Baldur's Gate game for the PS2. It was multiplayer, and you could level up, get kewl new powerz, and go shopping. Something like that would rule.

Any suggestions welcome!

I think Demon's Souls would be right up your alley.

Check out the Ratchet & Clank games for your wife:)

Demon's Souls sounds very harsh and unforgiving to me...I've thought about picking it up, but I'm afraid I'll stall out five minutes into the game...=)

Little Big Planet 2 is coming soon.

I got my kid Lego Harry Potter and he stayed with it pretty much until he beat story mode...he hasn't touched Free Play like he did Lego Star Wars 1 & 2 and Lego Batman...(but he's a huge Batman/Star Wars kid and not so much into Harry Potter).

Thanks! Those both look cool. There seem to be quite a few Ratchet & Clank games. There's a Game Stop on the corner; I can probably pick a used copy up. Presumably you can start with any title.

Yeah, we're gonna get LittleBigPlanet 2 when it's out. We both liked that one.

The first R&C on ps3 is crack in time. There is a storyline that runs through them, but they stand alone pretty well too.

It is, even for seasoned gamers. It got the "Most controllers thrown at the TV" award for 2010 from games magazine "Edge" and it totally deserved it.

"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

WTF was that? Looks like Lego Legend of Zelda.

Exactly.

It's an homage to old 8-bit adventure and RPG games like Zelda and Final Fantasy, by taking the 8-bit look and turning it into 3d high-def.  It shamelessly rips off the tropes of Zelda and FF.  A lot of the inventory items are even the same as Zelda (boomerang, super-sword that charges when you're at full health, etc.).

Fallout 3, of course.

I also highly recommend Heavy Rain. It's a cop mystery story, but it's easily the best game made for any console.

3 Dot Heroes looks awesome! She will love it.

They actually have a couple copies of Oblivion at the local Game Stop. I'd heard the name before.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm a total video game n00b.

Mass Effect 2 is just now coming out for the PS3 and it's an excellent game. This trailer for the game sure grabbed me when I first saw it.

Have you checked out Dragon Age? It had a number of expansions and lots to do. Dragon Age II will be out soon...

Dragon Age seems like another one that would scratch my fantasy-shtick itch. Anyone have a preference between Dragon Age and Oblivion?
