This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Need place in NYC to give away my Warhammer Fantasy / 40k / EPIC stuff

I want to donate my Warhammer and Warhammer 40k stuff to geeks who will make good use of it.

Where in NYC could I do this? I know of the miniature wargaming club that meets Thursdays in the basement of the Compleat Strategist, but if there's a bigger venue that hosts gatherings on a weekend I'd prefer that.

I quit the tabletop game 15 years ago, my brothers about 7 years ago.

We have a ton of bits, unpainted miniatures, complete sprues, paint and tools for WFB, 40k, and EPIC.

Though I want to give it all away for free, I kind of hope I could barter to get one of my Nurgle Plague towers painted up professionally as a memento. :D

!!! IF you have any Skaven, I will pay you to ship it to me! It will be put to immediate use!

Herne's Son

I knew a guy years ago who was involved in this: http://nerdnyc.com/wordpress/

No idea about them aside from that, but maybe hit them up and see if anyone wants your good junk?

I'd suggest a convention. Most cons have "take and paint" events to promote painting minis and its a hit with kids because the con provides free minis and free paint and brushes and people get to go home with a mini they painted. But usually cons have to foot the bill or hope for donations from con staff so they'd love your stuff. Also, if its a non-profit convention (some are) then you can write off your donation on your 2015 taxes.

Also, if you want some stuff painted as keepsakes / RPG stuff, then you can usually cut a deal with somebody local at the FLGS who paints for money. Those guys love more minis and they'll cut you a deal for X minis in exchange for Y minis they paint and give back to you.

Same here if you have Empire or Dark Elves.

That was a horrible idea. Assuming the people in charge of the orphanage let them have the minis without coming up with some lame rationale why they were "bad", those armies are only playable with a further investment of moneys of a level none of those kids would see. Not to mention they would be "shared property", meaning no kid would ever have their own playable army, the figures would be destroyed and broken in under a year, and there's no way the orphanage would be providing the proper paints for them.

Kids need toys. Not adult manchild toy-substitutes that foster a money-sucking addiction suited to a social class 99% of those kids will never see.

that said there should be a program where people go in and gm for orphans or something

although the edition wars among the founders would be hell

Unfortunately not all the photos are working right now and I'm getting tired, so I'll post what I've got and deal with the rest tomorrow. Sorry for the photo quality, it looked better at the time I took them:

More fantasy later when I get the photos to work I guess.

Note that I spoke to the Compleat Strategist and they think they can arrange a pick-up from some guys connected to learn-to-paint-and-play outfits.
