This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mutant Chronicles Siege of the Citadel boardgame Kickstarter

I am a huge fan of the original Siege of the Citadel. It's like HeroQuest, but with plasma guns and mutants. Tremendously fun game. I spent far more hours playing this than any other Mutant Chronicles product (and I owned a bunch) and it was always a favorite at conventions.

Any of you play the original game?

Modiphius (the crew behind 2D20 Conan, Mutant Chronicles, Star Trek and WTF knows what's next) are putting out a Kickstarter for a brand new version of the game. I am unsure if I want to cheer or puke. Also, I don't know if a new edition can offer much in this age of a new pile of minis dungeon boardgame showing up every month on KS. Maybe I am wrong. Any of you involved in the playtest?

Here is Modiphius' sales pitch.

It goes live on KS tomorrow at noon. I will update the OP with the link.

EDIT: here is the KS link...it funded, but WTF is with the costs?

I love the original but I must confess the rules changes worry me.  Siege is dead simple and should be dead simple.  Even the slow shift in the balance of power is actually a good thing.  For the first few scenarios it's a scary thing and then little by little the tide turns and you're ripping through hordes of legionaires and necromutants like paper.

I loved it so much, I bought a used copy on ebay. (The MC set I played belonged to a gaming buddy)
(It was only missing the mission book, easily downloaded, and one necro-dude had a broken bayonet. Otherwise in very good condition)

I heard about the remake, but don't know much beyond that it exists, and I'd be interested if it's any good.

I am also concerned about the rule changes, but the Design Team is notable (Richard Borg, Kevin Wilson, Eric Lang, Jay Little) so I am intrigued.

My initial take is harsh...I don't see the point. The original was awesomesauce in all ways. In fact, I am surprised these new minis don't look better. Maybe I am so spoiled from recent KS with gorgeous figs, but these figs look meh. No better than the original game, maybe even not as cool. Certainly their shoulder pads don't pass muster!

I do like the new boards, but $70 for the base game and $149 for the real deal? WTF?

But damn...I kinda want to see what these designers create.

You want to see what Jay Little creates?  Funky dice to give narrative spice.  I'm sure the game flow will now be broken into Acts, Scenes, Intermissions, etc. :p

It surpassed the GURPS Dungeon Fantasy kickstarter in less than two days.  I don't know how much market penetration Mutant Chronicles has, a Sega Genesis game and a B movie might give it an order of magnitude more exposure but somehow I doubt it.  To my own thinking its a consequence of Modiphus relentlessly promoting and supporting their own games to build hype.  But no, surely that can't be it.  And toy value can't be it either.  Of course not :D

Either way I'm still not sold on the Ezoghoul.  I want a better image.

Only because my friends rave about the X-wing minis game.

Omega

The minis look oddly less detailed than the originals. Weird.

I've got a review/overview up over on BGG. Also had a friend help with fixing a translation of the magazine expansions.

I think we're looking at CGI models at present, hence no painted examples.  They're talking about production in China using PVC so it doesn't sound like Prodos is doing the models.  That's a good thing and a bad thing.  Prodos does this machine injected resin technique with a high PVC content resin that is the nicest resin I've ever had to work with.  I still like polystyrene and metal better but as resin goes, it's really nice.  Anyhow, the ezoghoul's spine thingies are too small.  I keep telling them, "get the ezoghoul right," but do they listen?

No, of course not!

Anybody here involved in the playtest?

Anybody pledging?

Here's a playtest video. The dude's voice and slowness had me bouncing out after 30 seconds.

I'd like to do a retailer level pledge but eight copies?  I can see why they'd go that way but it's more than I'd ever sell.  I hope to put in a pledge near the end.  This month my money went to GURPS Dungeon Fantasy which has a nice 3 sets for $75 option.

With the two unlocked expansions this is becoming a good deal even at $149. As an owner and fan of the original, I'm finding it hard to resist.
Running: Dogs of WAR - Beer & Pretzels & Bullets
Planning to Run: Godbound or Stars Without Number

Man I hope I have better sales before this ends.  Right now it's just not in the budget.  Does anyone else remember the chibi drawings in Ultimate Warzone?

UWZ was my first introduction to the game so I missed the first Citadel, but it's tempting!
