From boardgamegeek.com:

QuoteHeroica is a board game series from LEGO, due out in August 2011. There are different sets which can all be combined into a larger game.

Heroica is a classic dungeon game. The players move through tunnels, collecting treasure and fighting enemies. Conflict is resolved by dice rolls. The die results can be a number or a symbol, for example allowing the player to use a special weapons. Instead of a character sheet, the players have little equipment "backpacks" which can be filled with weapons, potions, keys, etc., depending on what they find in their adventure.

The sets have different themes, like different landscapes. They can be combined so that the players complete a "level", then advance through doors into the next level. Draida Bay, the smallest set, is for two players. Nathuz Cave and Waldurk Forest are for two or three, and Castle Fortaan, the largest set, is for two to four players.

This has great potential.  Hell, this could be a long awaited introductory game, the gateway drug that opens elementary kids to gaming.  At worst, the rules will suck but it will have some nice figures and pieces.

I am surprised it isn't more attractive or utilize more of their castle pieces.

the back pack made me think of the Brickquest "character sheet":

which seems like a cool thing.

This idea is so brilliant and simple, now that I see it, I am a little surprised this hasn't happened before.

Kudos to LEGO!

Hell yeah!

I have some gaming buddies who build a lego figure of any character they're rolling up for use as a mini in game. Nice to see Lego making it official.

One nice innovation from Lego in the boardgames currently out is the customizable die. Six sider with each face having a 2x2 lego spot so it can have a larger face or 4 smaller symbols. It can change within or between games.

I notice that the game uses a smaller scale than many are expecting. The figures fit on one spot, are a single piece, and are much smaller than the lego people that you build. They're the same pieces as in teh boardgames but with more painting.

$15 to give it a try, not $40-$100.

Do want.  Do want baaaad.

This has replaced my slight lust for Freemarket and Gamma World in the "shiny boxed game category", and has the added bonuses of being:

1) significantly cheaper
2) two player, which means I can just play with my roommate

Two player RPGs and RPG-ish alternatives are a big appeal right now, the gaming community here is all but dead, no one wants to actually play.

Treat yourself to a really nice complete Warhammer Quest set off eBay.

You'll blow $200 on it, play it a few years and resell it for $300 unless GW ever get around to reprinting it.   And even if GW ever redid WHQ, you'd still be able to resell the original for at least $150.

Looks awesome - I really hope the kiddo keeps his interest in Legos, 'cause the father is sooo sold on this.
