Yes, please. All of it.

Man, I still have a notebook filled to the brim with the maps I made while playing all those games. Beautiful, detailed maps, 1 square = 1 step, hours and hours poured onto them. This game is like my childhood in 3 minutes :D
Man, do I share the feeling. There's nothing quite like playing a good dungeon crawl computer game alone in the dark. It's awesome. I really can't wait for this game to come out. And I have not bought a PC game for like, fucking ages now.
Yes, I have been looking expectantly at this one!
It will get my money before Diablo III does.

I'm heavily into PC gaming and my opinion is pretty well shown here:

The video is spot-on, nad to make it worse, it's got me hankering for some old school FPS action. I'm off to find download link or torrent for Ye Olde Doom, but if anyone's got a good FPS to recommend, with little or no bullshit cutscenes or railroading, I'll be happy to give the PC game industry a bit more money.
Operation Flashpoint and the continuations. Only FPS I ever bothered with.

The video exaggerates, but it makes a valid point. Read this discussion on FPS map design (http://neogaf.net/forum/showthread.php?t=412422) and the arguments people bring up. Do they sound familiar?

Too familiar.
I am not too much for the "maze design" of FPS to be honest - because they make me nauseous (I mean really, they do. I can't play an FPS for longer then hour - two, because I feel like vomiting. No idea why's that. Probably rapid camera movement). I prefer open spaces when freedom's involved. Though I admit that alongside OF, I did finish all Half - Life 2 stuff and loved the game.
I played a fair bit of ADOM, but other then that, never was too big for dungeon crawling, PnP or PC - they just feel boring to me. I prefer investigations, generally - both of people, and of places.

LOL One of these guys says the Silent Cartographer (http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/The_Silent_Cartographer) is bad level design! OMG.
Get the fuck out.
Stealin' mah threads. :P
And nah, Cartographer was one of the best maps. Can't give the same praise to the second half of the game, though...
Also, for those on the fence, give in to PC game superiority. Less lowest common denominator console design BS. Seriously, health-regen is anti-immersive. ;)
Depends if you're a Spartan. Then it's your Shields that replenish themselves. Not your Health. Immersion not damaged. ;)

BTW Have you tried the Library on Legendary? Now
that's some repetitive suicide bullshit right there.

Doom's not on GoG, but it is on Steam (http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Steam), although for modern computers you should use one of the source ports rather than using the default executable (Plus there are modern maps designed to take advantage of the source port's upgrades).
On another note, there have been a few dungeon crawlers of this style on the handhelds recently - the Etrian Odyssey series on DS, for example, is one I think you'd really enjoy. You have to build your own map of the game world, using the touch screen.
The DS is a really good platform for old-school non-real-time CRPGs in general.
Quote from: Benoist;523884BTW Have you tried the Library on Legendary? Now that's some repetitive suicide bullshit right there.
It's been a long time since I've played -- I may have at one point with a friend, but I think we may have given up by that point our of frustration.
However, the first half of Halo 1 is some of my favorite FPS gameplay ever. Especially back then, because a lot of AI in FPSes was horrible around that time, and Halo's was a nice challenge.
Such a love/hate relationship with that game for me...

Etrian Odyssey is effing haaaard. And it's more focused on grinding/combat than exploration or puzzles. Still fun, but in the way grindy games tend to be more meditative/time-sinks. Asian RPGs are like that for some reason, though. Cultural stuff.
So this baby is out (http://store.steampowered.com/app/207170/?snr=1_7_suggest__13). And cheap, too. Anyone got it?
The Steam blurb even mentions an Olde Schoole Mode without automap! How awesome is that!
I'd pick it up right now if I wasn't so engrossed with WoW, of all things. Talk about late to the party...
Wife and I pre-ordered and we played most of last night when I got in from work.
My wife is playing without automap (I didn't see the option in my haste to get in and bashing), she is carefully mapping out on graph paper.
It is all awesome and I love it. The only moment of frustration was that it took me a minute to figure out that you right-click on your weapon/hand to fight/cast spells. But after that, all gold.
I love the tactics that you can use, all the stuff in the environment can be used to your advantage and I can't wait to use different party combo's to see how it all goes.
So for me, definitely well worth the $12 dollars splurge.
I haven't bought it yet but will in the next few days for sure.
I bought it yesterday, haven't had yet the time to test it.
I played it late last evening (the new mission (http://www.thedarkmod.com/missiondetails/?id=58) for The Dark Mod enjoyed a priority :D), and it is exactly what it set out to be - an atmospheric, not over-complicated 2.5D dungeon crawling game with modern production values. I went the way of the graph paper because I haven't done that sort of thing in ages, and it's been very entertaining so far - exploring a corridor by the dying embers of your torch, bashing in the heads of skeletons in Roman legionnary gear, and all the classic tricks and traps.
The only criticism I have so far is that the first two levels are very linear - there are branches, but they usually lead either to a key you will need in the other branch, or a closed door where you have to backtrack for that key. I hear this gets better deeper into the dungeon, though.
So far, I am happy.
SIGH. Now I have the game but it doesn't launch because of DLL errors. :(
Level 3: holyfuckspidersSPIDERSPIDERS!getthemoffmeholyfuck!!!!
Trying to fix my DirectX right now.
Quote from: Benoist;530194Trying to fix my DirectX right now.
Try updating the drivers if that won't help. Just remember to uninstall them first.
.DLL errors are quite often a mark that your machine might not be good enough to run the game, I am afraid :(.
The Direct X update did it. I can run the game now. :)
I have played the first level and it runs great. My minotaur warrior is now level 2. Man, it looks great :)
Liking it so far. It's nice to play a dungeon-crawler that allows a bit more problem solving, since a lot others tend to devolve into pinging enemies until one of you drops (like the Etrian Odyssey games).
Quote from: Melan;530190Level 3: holyfuckspidersSPIDERSPIDERS!getthemoffmeholyfuck!!!!
This! And the rest :)
Loving the puzzles and the freaky stuff when you sleep.
Diseased effect is a pain in the arse but cool too :)
Slowly making my way down the levels, it is still awesomes.
I do wish there was a 'no real time' option....the whole point I got the thing is it looked turn-based so I could play it on my laptop. I get the feeling once the fights start getting intense I won't be able to control 4 characters simultaneously with enough speed to be amusing.
I do not think it was ever implied to be turn-based.
Quote from: Melan;530883I do not think it was ever implied to be turn-based.
Nope, never. Also, I want to publicly state my eternal hate for those FUCKING UNDEAD LEGIONNAIRES.

It's always been real-time; if you can't cope with the combat, set it to easy. That's what the difficulty setting is there for. The main thing with combat, so far, seems to be making sure you're agile enough to avoid counterhits; if you're used to WASD-style controls, though, you should be fine.
Anyway, liking it so far. I got to the Skeleton with the default party and got murdered, then read some threads on the developer forum, revised my tactics, started an all-human party, and started again; I've got to the cells on level 2 now.

ahhh, opening and shutting doors on the bad guys, my favourite tactic in Grimrock .. specially againsts slimes and ranged bastards when you don't have room to dodge.

One is enough. When they're all over the fucking level, it's a pain in the ass...
I don't have enough antivenom to handle spiders! I have seen just one so far. If there's ever more than one, my merry band of prisoners is royally screwed.
Sleeping makes you recover from venom, ultimately (you need to wait and be patient while sleeping).

The downside is that you're spending time resting, so your adventurers go hungry. I'm running out of supplies right now (starting level 4), but I acquired a damn crossbow.

Well, for me food has not been a problem yet (level 3), but I would give anything for a missile weapon. I got some arrows, but no bow or crossbow. My thief is getting quite deadly with knifes and stones, but she needs more punch.

Plenty of food on level 5, crabs on level 5 though, so more sleepings!
Sleep will cure poison and disease.
Grim Cap mushies are both alchemy and food. I found food more important :)
Personally I love that falling down pit traps is rewarding more often than not!

No spoilers, please, but I need to know how the fuck you make potions. I found a scroll with ingredient lists for two potions (healing and antivenom) and two empty flasks, but I don't know how to create them.

You will need a specific item to combine ingredients. When you find it, you will know it.

OK, that's what I needed to know. I thought I was doing something wrong :) Thanks.
Fucking spiders die die die die die.
I feel your pain, Ramon.
Somewhere around the spider level (or right before it) is an item that gives uber resistance to poison--easy enough to pass around to whoever needs is.
This makes the spiders more amusingly annoying. Lots of secret stuff in this game, if you walk away from an area going "wonder what that button did?", chances are you've missed a secret.
Finally installed this mofo and gave the first two levels a whirl.
Of course I'm already stuck somewhere and one of my PCs is gone to minotaur heaven. "Enter thy grave" indeed. :o
Love this game!
