This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Looks like it will be fun. On the fence on if I should get it for PC or XBox360. I watched the intro video on the X360 and it was pretty cool.

Anyone looking at getting it and if so what platform?

I'm picking it up on the 360 because of a failing PSU and the fact that I have 3 times the friends on XBox Live, many of which are definitely picking this up.  This is the kind of game I've been waiting for.  Well actually I've been waiting for a zombie survival MMO but this will do.

I played the demo. My head would have exploded from excitement...if not for being busy making zombie heads explode.

Very tough game. Very atmospheric. And the "mutant" zombies are fucking terrifying to behold and combat.

Just got done with a few rounds of the demo on the X360, fun as hell. Going to try the demo on the PC. I just am not a big fan of FPSing on the X360.

Hubby has the pre-order for PC. I just have the demo.

Gonna play on his steam :) I haven't decided yet if I'm going to want it or not - it's fun, but I have FPS games that are fun - CS:S. TF2, and really need to get some practice in as we're getting ready to start league play next season in CS:S.

anyone know how the versus mode will work since my liking this game (after the online disaster that is gears2) depends on how this plays.

The demo only has 4 player co-op, so don't know. I thought that if you were killed, as a survivor, you became a zombie, at least that what I thought.

you don't in the demo.

The two chapters in the demo are really really short. I hope that's not indicative of the game in general since it won't last long at all as a co op game.

Versus is what interests me.

I wish the PC demo was out, I had fun on the X360 but I just don't think I care for the controls for an FPS.

using a mouse for fps controls is fail.

however i am dubious about the game in some respects. While i's really atmospheric and well done it is a bit simplistic and the versus mode is only playable on four of the maps - and if the maps are anything like they are in the demo they won't last very long at all!

To each there own. I am much quicker and accurate with mouse/keyboard combo.

Played the demo on the X60, my feeling was that was only part of the level. :idunno:

There are four chapters over all with something like 4 or 5 levels inbetween, the two in the demo are the first two of the first chapter. Each level i think is a standalone environment (as is the case in the demo). Of course it may be just that they are the demo levels or that they are the first levels of the game and everything els eis much bigger in scope. But if not there's no way this game is long enough and 4 maps is just hopeless. In fact I don't even think there are enough infected types to go around: you have boomer, smoker and tank iirc. That's three between four people.

I get the impression it's more like something that belongs on the orange box, like portal or tf2, than a standalone full price game.

Tough to see how it will play once you get others controlling the zombies. I think once your get some real zombie OPFOR it should get interesting.

I picked this up this week and we've played through the first couple of chapters. The demo is actually the first chapter and about half of the second chapter. So, as far as running through the campaign, it looks like it could take some time.

The super infected include the Boomer, Tank, Hunter and Smoker, so a team of four can be the infected. And you take turns. So a team of survivors try to make it to the next safehouse while the infected try to stop them. You can compare times or even if the survivors make it.

What really has legs is the A.I. director and how each play through is very much different. We played one difficulty up from normal (forgot what it's called) and we had to use a strategy of basically sacrificing a survivor to stop the tank. But, unlike other coop games, say Gears of War or Rainbow Six Vegas, we couldn't plan and use trial and error to get around the area where the Tank stays. Cause we had no idea. And every time that bastard came exploding through a door, we collectively shit our pants.

It's pretty intense and if you've got a strong friends list I definitely recommend it. If you plan to play this game solo most of the time, I'd suggest a rental at best. Or pick it up used a coupla months from now.
