Kid got the money for a PS3 for Christmas - I shelled out the extra $$ for a bundle with a game - the game is the Last of Us. I am not an avid gamer anymore and have come to enjoy 3rd person mission-based games in open environments (a la GTA). My favorite games include: Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Battlefront/field, Twisted Metal, and GTA.
Am I going to like Last of Us?
Is that the one with fungus-based Zombies? If so, its really REALLY good. And one of the very few plausible depictions of zombies ever.

Yes, it is. I'm picking the bundle up tomorrow, but it seems to be the same one from the reviews.
Let me ask you this: I saw references made to cannibals and other hostile survivors. Do you remember any sexual themes in it? How about the cursing? Kid's 14, so she's no babe lost in the woods, but I'd prefer not to be playing a game with her where someone's getting raped or every other word is f-.
No, no sex or rape, but the zombies are used sparingly, the main villains are actually other humans, and its quite realistically violent and no happy endings, so not sure if its age-appropriate. Don't recall cursing, but it seems probable, but it wasn't over the top if I didn't note it, as Im not a fan of curse words used as punctuation myself.

OK, that's good to hear. She's just getting into scary movies, books, etc. so zombies and violence are ok to some degree. She's been playing Call of Duty zombies so it couldn't be more violent than that. :) Thanks!
I saw a promo video on the internet and I remember cursing being used, I think even f-.
You're the best judge of what your children can handle, but the themes addressed in Last of Us are pretty mature. And the final act .... well, I would find it hard to explain to a young kid certain things about it.
Still. It's brilliant, and not at all the story I assumed it was going in.

At the same time, I'm pretty sure Antigona was a mandatory reading by the age of fourteen time, alongside Macbeth (at least in schools in country I come from). So it's not like teens by that age are still sheltered from adult themes.
I'm not saying you aren't right - I just feel like sometimes we forget our own teen years, thinking that we were sheltered innocents that were yet to see the more mature sides of the world.
I dunno. by 14 years old Id seen a decade's worth of horror films, read everything from Stephen King to Clive Barker, and feasted on a generation's worth of Tales From the Crypt-style comics, so its really individual what a you g teen can handle or a parent feels is appropriate. I personally tend to worry more about quality for my kids than content.
So yeah, it's brilliant, but its bleak. When I say its mature though, I diont mean that to mean violence porn.

Hahaha! I counted 4 f-bombs in the first 15 minutes so we had to stop. :)
Seems pretty interesting, but I hate how games hand feed you everything nowadays, even highlighting which button to use. It gets to where you're just looking for the colored icon and not actually enjoying the excellent graphics.

Ah, well, sorry bout that. The cursing didn't stand out in my recollection.
