This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Any one play?  Its a fun game, we have been playing the 3rd edition with expansions for about 3 years.  I would recomend.  It takes about 2 hours per person (so yes that means 12 hours with 6, we only did that once, while teaching 3 of them so maybe we could go faster).

Also.

I've read about it and watched some Shut Up and Sit Down videos on it. Looks teeth grinding boring to me. Maybe it is just the theme though. Cosmic Encounters looks more up my alley and doesn't take an eternity to play.

Hell's belles...was going to say something but then realized I am thinking of Twilight Struggle.  At least it wasn't Twilight 2000.

Played some 3rd edition, pre-expansions. I really enjoyed it except for the strategy card that gives 2 VPs. It was pretty much like a space 4x in boardgame form. I hear Eclipse is good for that kind of thing as well.

I've read the box for twilght struggle.  I am not so interested in 2 player games.  Is it fun?

As for boaring.  No.  Turns are small and short, more like initiative order in a combat round than like a tyrn in a game of risk.  So that keeps everyone pretty engaged.

We play with expansions and don't use the 2 point strategy card.  Makes the game much better.

I hear eclipse is good.  Like a stream lined better designed version of TI but you can't get epic in 2hours.

Well, it depends. Let me put it this way - if you love Master of Orion, you should love this one. It's long, yes, but the depths of options, from diplomacy to rules for trading, war and technology, are really rewarding, not to mention that every race truly feels rather unique in play.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

@ Ricewind.

Have you seen that the 4th edition is coming out?  Sounds like they will make a few improvements and stream line some things.  I hope they do a bit of balance too.  Its anoying playing against the Gollum race.  The skipers.

I have a few other big board games I bought and haven't had a chance to play yet.

Is this game any good with two players? Usually my wife and I play together. Sometimes we play with her sister and her husband.

Spike

I played it once, four players, with an expansion set?

Anyway, I really liked it, so I bought a box myself, but then wound up selling it unopened to half price books like some sort of tard for reasons that I can't recall, and then I got another box two years ago... and have since almost entirely been on the road, though I somehow rejected roping my board game loving extended family into wasting three or four days over christmas because... reasons?

Its not enough of a quick and fun board game, and not enough of an RPG... occupying some weird middle ground that makes me really like it, but never actually want to play it again?  Or I just want to be the sort of weirdo who HAS Twilight Imperium, but never plays it... or I want to play it, but not enough to actually, you know, get to know people or something.
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

I can totally see liking it but never wanting to play it.  Its an Endeavor.  And finding the time to dedicate to the game can be tough as an adult.  Most of my gamers are not up for that game even most of the hard core ones would rather play 2 or 3 shoryer games.  If more of the board gamers were role players we would probably never play TI.  With a block of time like that we would role play.

But I've gotten 2 or 3 games in this summer and have one more planned before school starts (one of my players is a school teacher and 2 are professors).  So I am looking forward to finally becoming emperor of the Galaxy.
