This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

That Guy

Indiegogo is based in San Francisco, so they'd have the same issue. Their best best is something like Verkami, which is based in Spain.

Omega

Yes, Sounds like they are aiming for Verkami.

Also one of GameZones members apparently turned around and is currently trying to file a trademark for HeroQuest in the US by filing it under Toys and Sporting or somesuch since Moon Design's HQ is registered under books.

And more self contradictory posts on whats happening.

Round and round.

Omega

And its up om Verkami.

aaaaaaaand its closed down a few hours later by Verkami stating the campaign was misleading to backers or somesuch.

Looks like this one is over.

Skywalker

According to GZ, they are looking for another crowdfunding site :D

Give em points for persistence. But dock them points for poor translations.

"I know that your arrows are still fly true..." from their video.

JeremyR

Maybe they could just call it HQ?

There's a couple retro-clones that do that, use the same initials as D&D and AD&D...

Someone who speaks Spanish should perhaps warn people what hijinks are going on here? Also, GW not suing for breach of trademark is the biggest shocker to me. I thought they had a script for that already.
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Perhaps they do, but feel a little burned after the Space Marine fiasco, so they instead prepares a strong  ... something .... if GZ would get too far.
For now, why waste money when others may ice the project for their reasons instead?
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.
;)

Gamezone has been calling the drtractors on BGG, The HQ forums and certain vocal opponents in Spain, trolls and placing blame on the failure of the Verkami on them.

GW in this case oddly now has no investment unless GZ screws up. They removed all the Warhammer refferences and so all they have to contend with is Hasbro. Of course GW could still act. But thats iffy at this stage.

Hasbro so far hasnt acted either. So far. And no one has heard from Baker.

JeremyR

Did Hasbro sue Joe Bloch for calling his retro clone AD&D?

Ditto for the producers of Gygax magazine, who use the TSR name.

If companies let their trademarks lapse, it's fair game.

If Gamezone actually had the trademark in Spain, that should be good enough

1: Did WOTC?

2: They registered it as its been let slip by WOTC.

3: In this case it seems Hasbro let it go as it was problematic from what I've been told. Not sure on that bit honestly as havent heard from Baker yet. More likely once MD got the TM in the US they stopped caring. We likely will never know.

4: GZ has the right to the name Heroquest. They dont have the rights to the board game and they should not be calling their game a 25th anniversary and then not even crediting the original designer.

In the end GZ keeps doing questionable things that undermine their veracity. They have the rights, they dont have the rights.T
hey talked to Hasbro, they didnt talk to Hasbro, they dont need to talk to Hasbro.
It is a remake, it is a update, it is a totally new game.

etc.

Self undermining.

GW is not known for being fair or rational in their rabid litigiousy

Actually, the TSR trademark was claimed 100% legally, as such.
