Announcement here. (http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=1010) It seems that they feel they're getting better results from their "Living Card Games" (as I understand it the distinction is that with CCGs you buy boosters and you don't know what you're getting, whereas with LCGs they just let you buy the whole set of cards without messing about), and that the CCG industry is too focused on Magic, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh for FFG to successfully compete there.
Good...I've seen too many good game ideas tossed into the abyss due to a financially untenable (for a player) CCG-style delivery.
Guess it sucks for those people still investing in UFS and Kingdom Hearts. But the LCG model I have to agree is way more appealing on many levels and I can't say that I'm surprised at all.
About damned time. CCGs are outside FFG's core competency and it was a big mistake to deal in such things.
Not necessarily a bad thing, apparently. I've been rooting for the LCG model since the release of the 1st edition Betas in Magic: the Gathering. I approve.
!i!
I think CCGs need a largish fan base that keeps buying expansions to work well. I don't know how would do it without a big ad budget and either be the first on the market or be part of a huge toy/cartoon brand.

LCGs are awesome. Pay once for the core, pick and choose from any expansions, and that's all you need.
CCGs tend to annoy me since I'm one of those people that don't feel you should need a budget just to remain competitive at a game.
Bully for them; while I like CCGs (Magic in particular), their model isn't my cup of tea.

the lcg model isn't really that different. You still need to buy the cards and you still need to buy multiple packs, even if the packages now contain more cards, to get the multiples you need to compete (that's always been the ccg design and lcg's seem no different to me). Thus you are still spending a lot of money. As i understand it, the cards in lcg format still have rarities. What kept people interested in ccg's was the means to build different decks. Limit that and you kill interest in the games and that's the road lcg's are unwittingly walking. There's just no way to make these sort of games any other way. Besides ccg's (except magic which is it's own thing) are a dead format anyway.
