SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: beejazzI think we're thinking about different Dunes here. I take it yours has nothing to do with Frank Herbert?

In any case... real time strategy tends to be pretty similar overall. If it's fun, cheap, and runs on my computer I don't much care how derivative it is. Had loads of fun with red alert and the first starcraft... if it's anything like those two, it's more'n enough for me. If it ain't broke...
Dune II had three houses, Atriedes, Harkonnen, and Ordos.  And for the most part the game's strategy was designed around small cheap units.  Thanks to the poor quality of the AI, you could easily overcome the computer player with a horde of smaller cheaper units.

The AI was so predictable I used to defend my bases by setting up a U-formation of cheap trikes of foot soldiers set to intercept the path the enemy always took to attack.  They'd wind up marching single file right into being surrounded.

God in the Machine.

Here's my website. It's defunct, but there's gaming stuff on it. Much of it's missing. Sorry.

I've got a blog. Do you read other people's blogs? I dunno. You can say hi if you want, though, I don't mind company. It's not all gaming, though; you run the risk of running into my RL shit.

I don't know squat about Starcraft, but Korea's fascination with it is itself... fascinating. The article reads like a report on something between a rock concert, a major sport event and a fascist/communist rally. You could certainly imagine the Blizzard top dogs flexing like Bob Geldof in Pink Floyd's The Wall. :keke:
