Other than a game set in the Hyborian Age with customizable avatar nudity, what is Conan: Exiles exactly? I've seen a screenshot that looks Elder Scrolls-ish.
It's an open world survival game. You start naked and have to find food, shelter, raw materials to make tools, weapons, etc. Eventually you make strongholds with other players and fight with other strongholds. Typical multi-player PvP-Minecraft crap, there's a ton of these things on Steam.
Not Elder Scrolls at all. Not even really Conan unless off in some badlands, people are cutting out the hearts of their enemies and sacrificing to Mitra to summon a 100ft tall Bronze Golem Avatar to crush their enemies, but I must have missed that story.
So someone had a game having to do nothing with Conan, Funcom has the license with no games to slap it on, and VIOLA!
Maybe if you picture it as a Post-Apocalyptic Hyborian Age after the Stars Come Right or something it makes sense.

Follow the link in the OP... As expected, horses are envious of the member you can give your toon in Conan Exiles.
My question, is why do they need a "slider" for this attribute? What self respecting Conan fan is going to give their toon anything but the very best? Seems pointless to have a slider that goes to negative values.
From playing Age of Conan though, giving your toon 38 GGG breasts did not seem to improve loot drops so I'm going to guess this is just for marketing.
And doubtless, there will be "role players" in the game trying to figure out how to bump their uglies into anything and everything. AoC came with a set of emoticons to assist in your "role playing" needs.

From the trailers I have seen, Conan cuts you down from the cross you are crucified on and sets you free. He then walks away and thus they have worked Conan into the game. Everything I have seen seems to be based on Stygia geographically.
But without any story or interaction with NPCs based in Howard's stories it does seem rather devoid of many "Conan" attributes.
I will probably still play it a bit to see though. I have been wanting to try one of the survival games out and one based even that loosely on Hyboria is as good an idea to try out as most.
I watched some footage and it is just another janky survival game with a half-assed 'Conan' reskin.

It seems like a very thin clone of Age Of Conan to me. And I played that game for several months at launch.
From what I seen in lets plays there are going to rpg elements added to this game. Like stats, classes, and the possibility to create your own kingdom through sacrifing to the gods and slave labor. So what we got is earily alpha. I want to see what the sorcery is like.
My first reaction is a kinda... "and? So?"
Are all the characters male?
Is there much point to the nudity aside from a bit of originality and daring to start the PC off really naked and with nothing for once?
Though Secret of the Silver Blades did that to you too wayyyyy back. "Next time villagers. You better wish for heroes with their GEAR. Or at least some clothes!"
And of course the aptly named "Naked Doom" solo module for Tunnels & Trolls.
The things is, hanging dongs might be new for the computer RPG scene, but Conan: Exiles isn't an RPG, it's a Survival Game.
Survival Games have had hanging dongs since Rust 4 years ago.
Is it really a survival game though? Sounds more like its just an RPG-like game with a harder than usual start off and "Survival" slapped on to attract attention?
It's almost an identical setup to the beginning of Age Of Conan.
In Age Of Conan, you start as a shipwreck survivor with no memory. Who has to gather what equipment they can as they make their way to civilization. The character literally starts that game with nothing but the rags on their back.
...and two feet in from the beach in Age of Conan, you run into your first quest.
There are no quests in Conan Exiles, and they have no intention of making any. It is an open world survival game, not an RPG. There is a very rudimentary leveling system that is there primarily to distribute crafting recipes for the Building game. The combat system is very simplistic compared to AoC.
So there are no NPCs? Its all player driven?
Then it sounds like Wurm Online... with less clothes... :o

Really closer to Dayz or Rust with a Conan Skin. Is there some particular reason you refuse to take the designers at their word that they are making a survival game and not an RPG?

Why not consider it a survival game? Because Ive played and/or been playtester for enough of these games to know that trendy labels slapped on a new product tend to be sometimes not very truthful.
Starting with nothing and having to build your own tools does not make it a survival game. Not sure what you'd call what they are describing.

All said though this does look rather ambitious with the freeform city building. Very Wurm Online in that aspect.
All the promotional material so far makes me think more RTS vibe. Especially since it seems to be the main thrust of the gameplay with the survival startoff being potentially rather short.
