This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Played this Friday night during our game night for the first time.

Here's a pretty good overview of the game, to give you an idea:

So you basically play four dudes in a gang, get on the board, try to get as many treasures and whatnot (depending on the scenario being used - 8 are included with the game, and you can make up more on your own once you get to know the game well enough), and then get out of the board before the district is completely sealed off by the guard.

Each guy has a different special ability. You basically pick locks or bash chests located in the different rooms depicted on the board to get treasure. Both lock picking and combat are single-roll dirt simple game mechanics. There is some amount of tactics going on during the game, but it's not super deep either. Random outcomes may affect game play tremendously, so if you don't like this sort of thing, this may not be the game for you. It is not complex like Descent, or layer upon layer of strategy like some eurogames out there. It's fairly simple, straightforward skirmish fun at its core.

A game basically runs for about an hour before it's over. It's quick, it's fun, and the flavor of the game is pretty cool. I look forward to playing the game again. I'm really happy with it.

Actually, having played it again, the tactical elements start to sink in, and the randomness matters less than I first thought. The placement of your guys at the beginning of the game, going for the right treasures are the right time (since there are "mission cards" that allow you to get some ducats early on in the game by getting specific types of treasure and getting bonuses coin based on how many you have when you call on the card), the careful placement of militia men when you get to move them, the gestion of your movement and exiting when you can, as well as using the right guys for the right job, with the right arcana cards played at the right moment, all participate to the base decision making in the game.

I thought it was ok for a game... but less than what I wanted for something with the Cadwallon name attached. The miniatures are nice-ish... but I guess I missed the baroque rules and setting flavor... so it made me cranky.
We'll surely give it another go someday soon.
