This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

There's a dude goes by the name javelin98, and he built a bunch of starship minis all by himself.  He did it on a budget with stuff from craft stores, sundry little metal things and crap like that.

Anyone know of any other online sources or tutorials on this topic?  I can't just go out and buy a buncha buncha starship minis, much as I'd like to.

I used to scratch-build vehicles for Warhammer 40K.  I've got some links... I'll post 'em in a bit.

Good stuff there (and there). I remember somebody making ships out of either clothespins or styrofoam/pingpong balls (those work for planets and asteroids too) but don't have a link handy. Doesn't seem to be at Star Ranger's news site, perhaps The Miniatures Page or one of the Full Thrust sites.

Most of the non-rare Micromachines for the various SciFi lines are likely still pretty cheap if you get them loose. Nigh indestructable, prepainted, and cover a lot of types of scifi ships. The stands are a little iffy but you could always buy a bag of Games Workshop or other bases.

(edit: good link upthread on making bases. Star Ranger's is a great site)
