I've been slowly working on some projects in Minecraft. One was the ambitious recreation of the Keep on the Borderlands. The other has been Burned Bush Wells from the module of the same name.
I set out to get it as close as possible to the maps for exteriors. This meant often the interiors are a little, or a lot off due to MC's restrictions.
First off was finding a suitable snowcovered map. Not as easy as it sounds. But I was aboe to finally get one with enough area to work on. Then the arduous task of landscaping and filling in.
After that was a matter of laying out each building and puzzling through the descriptions for clues to appearance or interiors. Mostly made out of the various woods on hand.
So once all done I wandered around and then tried to get the same view of the town as in that large picture in the module from street level. At first it was close. But not quite as there was supposed to be a house in the view where couldnt be. But then I moved over a little and there it was.
The artist did a good job of visualizing that view from just a top down map.
Here is my recreation view. Complete with an unco-operative horse.

Looking good man, and yeah, those snow covered maps can be so hard to find!
Also did a quick build of Mad Mesa's map. But that was far less interesting to walk through. I think I'll try rebuilding it at a different scale.
I went with 1 square = 6ft (2 MC blocks) and it felt too small. So will try again at 1 square = 10 ft (3 blocks) and see how that works.
Update. Converting to 1sq = 10ft worked and the rebuild looks alot better now.
Ive been placing signs at the reference point locations and buildings and once done will use the MC map to play.
