My son Matt is teaching 9 year olds in South Korea. It's a working class district and so the level of English is not that great. The school does free after school classes (most better off Koreans send their kids to paid after school classes) and Matt is doing games (boardgames and card games).
He's slowly building sets from paper and card and glue, and he asked if I knew of any games that he could legally print, glue and play with the kids. They need to be simple, and suitable for the age range, and although they've no budget, I guess I'd throw in a few quid if there was a cheap pdf that was good.
So, if you teach, or have kids, or just *know* then I'd be interested in your feedback.
Thanks, Tom.
If you wanted to donate anythng and don't mind paying postage to me I will be sending him a Red Cross parcel soon. PM or email me..
You should get in touch with Daniel Solis. He's on G+ and Twitter under that name. I think he'd be very interested in helping you out here.
I have no direct experience with them, but you might check out Cheap Ass Games (http://www.cheapass.com/games).
He'll have to look through the games and decide which ones are simple enough for his purposes, but I have two sources.
Boardgamegeek (http://boardgamegeek.com/advsearch/boardgame)-Click on "Adv. Search", then "Filter on Board Game Category" (near thye bottom), then check the box next to "Print and Play" and and click on "Submit". Many if not all are free to print.
There is also Warp Spawn Games (http://www.angelfire.com/games2/warpspawn/INDEX2.html) all of which are free to print and play (I believe).
There are a large number of free wargames at http://www.kcl.ac.uk/sspp/departments/warstudies/people/professors/sabin/consim.aspx
Note some are for Cyberboard but many are print and play. In spite of the topic some might be suitable for kids.
I've got some more links to free wargames in this thread: http://www.the-prussian-gamer.de/index.php?topic=2287.msg46354#msg46354
And this one, might be most suitable for kids as wargames go: http://www.the-prussian-gamer.de/index.php?topic=2596.msg51711#msg51711
If historical wargames would be appropriate, have a look at http://www.juniorgeneral.org/ (http://www.juniorgeneral.org/)
