Are there any sites that have printable miniatures that can be used in place of spending money (which i'm sure GW would prefer) on teams?

Probably sites with player images.

Your could download sprite sets for the Java BB game, and use those - they should be downloadable online, with a little searching, or I see if I still have them on my system and upload them somewhere later on.
