This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I never understood bothering to paint Imperial Guard infantry. They all die in second turn at best anyway.

:D
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

That's okay. I just bring more grunts than my opponent has bullets.

My Roman Marine bits came in!

Yay!

wait...

oh...

I'm missing 20 belts :(

email sent.

On the plus side I found a place to get some 28mm roman standards.

a couple packs of those should provide me enough standards.

Also in the UK :(

Eh, I play with Skavenslaves, and they only exist to die. I tarpit an enemy unit and then fire into them. But I spend long hours painting the bastards , just because I won't play with unpainted minis. It destroys immersion for me :)

Man I'm still grinding away on my Tau force; I'm going to redo the Crisis Suit team and AFVs too (one Hammerhead, one Devilfish).

I don't have the bits to do a whole squad but I modified the marine I painted with the new bits. So this'll be the "basic". I also have some variant heads, torsos, shoulder pads and crests to sprinkle about.

Some in progress pics of my Skaven army. Supposed to be ready for first battle (500 pts) by Wednesday.

Nice rats :)

What paints are you using for that neonesqe yellow?

Those are my first attempts , in progress, at creating OSL, so bone white, then Citadel Flash Glitz Yellow, then Snot Green, then yellow wash, then camp green/yellow wash, then white, then yellow wash again, then snot green/ yellow 1:2 blend. The neon desk lamp is helping the effect.

My 500 point army is complete! Inaugural battle on Wednesday vs Vampire Counts.

Here's some crappy pics

The bright yellow items are actually a sickly glowing green. I've painted my Island of Blood clan rats so that they can be broken up into units of slaves, storm vermin, or plague monks. The Plague Doctor mini is from Reaper's Pathfinder line and it's playing the role of General in my Army List this time. Once I get my warlord painted ( and his Bonebreaker mount conversion), I'll be treating the Plague Doctor as a Warlock Engineer ( Skaven's "mad scientist/sorcerer char profile).

I like to come up with little stories( "backgrounds") for my armies, and this includes coming up with a good reason to include a Plague Doctor with the Skaven, besides my thinking it just looks cool. Going to get a few other unusual minis to include in my Army Lists, besides more Plague Doctors. Thinking of a character called "The Piper" who wears a pallid mask and Yellow Robes (Robert Chambers call-out), using a customized version of this mini from the Carneval skirmish game...

Also thinking of a character called Queen of the Rats, in the same vein (using the Grey Seer character profile).

Speaking of the Grey Seer, I tried to get a better pic of mine, as he turned out quite well. Unfortunately the light is far toO harsh.

Let us know how they do on the field :)

I'm hoping to have a 500pt force I can try out next month.

Maybe another squad + command, so I can make a couple platoons and a Tank.

Add a handful of commisars, etc...

500pts pure guard (it's not enough points to fit a marine detachment)

40k question, then requisite painting jabber

To wit: it used to be back when I played Rogue Trader that you just smashed your forces together and whoever won, won.  The next time I played, around 2002-2003, there was some serious changes where now (then) it was like...you chose from one of six scenario types and that's how you have to play.  The game doesn't allow for other kinds or so it seemed.  Is that still the case?  Or was that the case at all?  Also, keeping in mind that I use the Tau minis almost exclusively for sci-fi gaming and not for 40k, I ordered a Cmdr. Shadowsun; I have a Tau book around here I got in the cast-offs at a used bookstore that says you must have a 1500 point army to use her - is that also the case?  Or is that kind of a thing folks ignore and just have fun unless it's a tournament.

Now, to the other thing (which I will post pics of later):  I'm refining my eye-painting method.  I've started doing a thing where I fill the eye-socket with a black ink wash after I prime, then let it dry.  The ink of course doesn't "paint" the eye, and leaves a black line in the folds and surrounding the eyeball itself, around the lids.  Then a thin line of leather white, followed by a colored dot.

It's making eye painting much cooler, I must say.

Eye method sounds good. On characters I usually go the "paint it black and put two white dots on the sides" method which works well.

On doods eyes fall under the "can you see it across the table?" Rule.

I've tried that; I'm starting to get the brush control down to the point that I may revisit it, but for now the fill with ink, offwhite line, colored dot is the next thing I'm going to try...

Exactly.  Nobody cares if PDT Gravius over there has perfectly painted eyeballs...he won't be anywhere near them when he's gutshot by an exploding spore mine pooped out by a Tyranid.

Edit: Any thoughts on the 40k question?

Of course it'll depend on who you play with but IME most 40k players are pretty by the book. Lists are built around assumed senirios and opponents.
