Just curious if anyone has played any of the offshoot games based on AW, particularly Dungeon World and/or Monsterhearts. I've pledged on DW, and will be getting Monster of the Week (another hack/offshoot inspired by Buffy, Supernatural, etc), but was curious if others here had any experience playing or running the system
My group did some AW one-shots to try it and found it really interesting. Ive also pledged for Dungeon World and wait anxiously for it. ;)
But Im also curious to know more people experiences with it.
Reality Blurs has a Cthulhu-esque game using the same system coming called tremulus. I haven't tried any of the other games, but I'm liable to give that one a go, just because I like Reality Blurs.

I am LOVING the cowboy avatar thing that's spreading throughout the forums. That's awesome. :D

One of my favorite movies of all time. :)

I saw mention of that on Facebook (I think), and look forward to finding out more. I really like Spectrum Games's Macabre Tales, so I'm interested in seeing this take on Mythos style gaming.

It's meant to be pick-up and play, apparently, supposedly with literally 20 minutes of prep (group and all). Sean Preston was talking about it in the Beautiful Brains chat the other night. He's been doing development diaries on his blog at the Reality Blurs site.
I've read the blogs I could find on the RB site, but I didn't feel it told me enough yet.
I've done two one-shots of Apocalypse World, one of Dungeon World, and two of Monsterhearts.
I'm not fond of Apocalypse World - the setting comes across to me as vague and confusing (psychic maelstrom wtf?), and the sex mechanics don't fit (as well as being weird).
Dungeon World was OK, but didn't impress me much. It drops the sex things and the psychic maelstrom, but it also didn't seem to have a strong focus. (As in, I didn't see how these rules enhanced the dungeon crawl experience.)
Monsterhearts I liked a lot more. The setup was good, and there was a point to the high randomness. In the genre of horror monsters in high school, and all the drama and romance was amusing and fit with the genre.
I'm looking into Dungeon World, but I'm going to hack the pieces out of it I think.
I got my print copy of Monster of the Week on Wednesday, and yesterday downloaded the pdf of Beyond the Devil's Reach, which is an adventure for Dungeon World. Started reading MotW, but haven't gotten far yet. The basic rules seem fairly easy, so I'm interested in trying it out.
Anyone know if the system has been adapted for superhero gaming at all?

I would be very interested in a supers version too, but havent heard of one.
Did you order the lulu version of MotW, because I am still waiting for my kickstarter copy and I am one country away from Mike, the waiting is driving me batshit.
I'd like to try and play one. I don't own them but I'd like to see how they play.

Hopefully someone will get the idea to do one. I know they did a super soldier playbook for The Regiment, but from what I've read, that version of the system is too gritty for regular supers

I got mine from the kickstarter. That's weird that I'd get it before you, seeing as how you are closer to where it's being mailed from. I hope you get it soon.
I all ready did some trading for the various playbooks, which was cool. Now to finish reading it...
I really like Apocalypse World. I'm still yet to understand the point of Dungeon World; why not just play OD&D? Why have cotton when you can have silk?
After doing some poking around and reading a most excellent review (http://rpggeek.com/thread/828155/hunting-vampires-mongolian-death-worms-and-terrors) I bit the bullet and plunked down for the Lulu Monster of the Week; from what I've read of it so far, it seems right up my alley.
I'm assuming that all the various bits are going to be explained at some point - like "forward" and "ongoing." I have a vague idea of what I think they might mean, but it'd be nice if I didn't have to guess.
Oh, and no sex built into the system. Huzzah!

Not everyone wants to play OD&D; I know I don't. Nothing wrong with it, but it's not something I'm interested in playing. It's just another alternative to that, much like say Legend/Runequest is (imho)

I get that, but I think what makes D&D and games like it interesting is resource management, which makes it a really poor fit for Apocalypse World-type mechanics.

You just answered your own question here. Not everyone want to waste time and neurons with resource management. ;)

They're missing out on the whole point of dungeoneering then, and it will be a much less interesting game for it.
noisms, I see where you're coming from, but since I didn't start with the dungeoneering end of things (I came into the hobby around 01 with 3e), I can say there are other elements to adventuring/dungeoneering that are cool, and I think DW stresses those elements rather than the wargamey/resource management end of it.
Most of our 3e days were spent bullshitting our way through the rules and having a fun time navigating ruins and towers lorded over by mad gnomes, despite the fact that hardcore resource management was the furthest thing from our minds.

You may be on to something there.
I didn't start with D&D either, and always felt a kind of disconnect when people started get all nostalgic about D20 type games.
I jumped on to the band wagon with the old AFF book Dungeoneer, so I skipped all of the resource lists and charts stuff in my first games, I guess that's why I find those kinds of games boring now.
You know what I never made the connection until now.
For those who were interested in tremulus, I just posted a playtest report from a guest blogger today. You can read that here (http://mostunreadblogever.blogspot.com/2012/08/guest-post-tremulus-playtest-report.html?spref=fb).
Picked up Monster of the Week today, and have been reading Dungeon World and Monsterhearts. I don't think Monsterhearts will be for me, but the first two are very promising.

Thanks for the offer...I've actually managed to round up all the exclusives and limited editions, actually...but it's cool for offering.
The game looks really good. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try it soon.
What is the best way for acquiring a physical copy of Monster of the Week right now ?

Ordering direct from the publisher or via Lulu, whichever gives you cheaper shipping, I would say.
