This is related to my other hobby, but I decided why the hell not, plus you can see what I am up to when not ruining everyone's roleplaying fun.

We are pleased to announce that we are working on
The Crucible of Omens, a full-length campaign for
The Dark Mod, the moody Doom 3-based stealth game (http://www.thedarkmod.com/main/) by Broken Glass Studios. Playing as the thief and adventurer John
Welland Hadley, you will embark on a quest to find a powerful artifact inherited from a shadowy past. You journey will take you throughout The Dark Mod universe, discovering new and exotic locations and meeting new and interesting factions and characters.
The Crucible of Omens spans multiple large missions and is being worked on by many well-known TDM mappers and team members.
Features include:- A wealth of different environments from the smoke-darkened city of Bridgeport to the icy northlands, from opulent mansions to the cobwebbed depths of forgotten catacombs.
- Gameplay centred on stealth, the pursuit of in-game clues and open-ended exploration, utilising the technical possibilities of The Dark Mod to create a complex, interactive game world.
- New opponents and characters. What drives the pirates of Wrecker's Reach? Who are the mysterious Urielites? And what lurks in the mind of Lord Blackstone?
- AI conversations and player character comments.
- A unique story experienced through in-game actions, animated briefings and dynamic objectives.
No official release date has been set; updates will continue as the campaign development progresses. Be sure to keep an eye out for future updates.
How can I help with the project? We are currently looking for skilled individuals to help contribute to the project in the following areas:
- artist and animator (cutscenes and in-game animations)
- modeller (campaign-specific models)
- mapper (scripting, bugfixes, testing)
- voice actors (various)
- music composers
Main mappers: Angua, Bikerdude, Dram, Fidcal, Greebo, Jdude, Melan

I love that you repudiate using a grid for RPG maps yet also make FPS maps.
At first it seems hypocritical, but with further thought it seems a logical development.
I
have been trying to build more complex and less rectangular architecture, though, which is essentially the same concept in a different medium. At least within the constraints of the available technology. Which can get you this:

...or this:

(Within their respective limits, the first shot is a lot closer to state-of-the-art than the second, in spite of its consciously simple colour palette.)
oh yeah!! I've been enjoying TDM for quite a while, and it is hands-down the greatest TC i've ever had the pleasure of playing!
can't wait to see this bad boy complete! :D
I think I just had a Thiefgasm. I might just buy DOOM3 and the original mod for this.
I'm tempted myself.
You need to have Doom 3 to play this, then?
Welcome to TheRPGSite, Rincewind1! :)
Both you and Benoist are correct; you need a copy of Doom 3 to play the mod. With the release of the source code, we may one day see a standalone version, but replacing all the Doom 3 assets the team has used may take a long time. Doom 3 comes pretty cheap nowadays, though (including on Steam), and once you have it set up, you just have to use Dark Mod's installer (http://wiki.thedarkmod.com/index.php?title=Installation) to download mod-specific content to your folder, and you should be ready to go. (And even if things don't go perfectly, people will help on the forums.) Hardware requirements may be higher than Doom's baseline for some missions.
The mod is a work in progress; some things are not perfect yet (getting vocals worthy of Eric Brosius and his team is a really tall order), but things are improving version-to-version, like advanced AI swordfighting in the most recent one, and the 50+ missions now available have some quite good ones (including dual missions and mini-campaigns). Not as many as Thief yet (the three games have something like 950+ among them), but a decent amount, with regular releases.
Here is a playlist of Youtube videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyexcFPrQjo&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL5D1711305C72AA96) showcasing a few of them (I have linked to one of mine, Fiasco at Fauchard Street).
Thank you for your answer. I never bothered with Doom3, but this changes things for me, and as you mentioned, it's practically sold for scraps nowadays.

Holy... ...Fuck...
A new update! (http://www.thedarkmod.com/posts/crucible-of-omens-news-feed/) This showcases three screenshots from an area of my mission (okay, a collaboration with other people, but I have put a lot of work into it). :D
